Painkiller: Black Edition

Painkiller: Black Edition

Game will not launch (Win10)
I cannot get Painkiller to launch on my computer, currently running Windows 10 with an Nvidia 3060. It will open for a split second, change the screen resolution, open a black screen, and then immediately crash.

The fixes that I have found floating around have not worked, either.
This includes:
Updating the game to the fan-made v1.66 patch.
Launching the game in Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode (or any other compatibility mode), as Administrator, and disabling fullscreen optimizations.
Launching the game from a .bat file containing
cmd.exe /c start /affinity 2 Painkiller.exe
.Installing DX9.

Has anybody had this issue and been able to find a solution? If so, please let me know.

Please check if you can run the editor (and also can load a level and go into menu later so you can start a game and check settings): https://gtm.you1.cn/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2646389255

The editor also instantaneously crashes, even when trying to use compatibility mode. The splash screen shows up, then the main window appears right before crashing.

I think the problem may be due to insufficient files. Check the integrity of the files via Steam.

Have already checked file integrity, the only files that do not validate are the ones I have replaced myself, with fan-patch files. I have tried with and without the fan-patch, and neither have worked.

I don't understand then what your problem is. The game runs without problems on win10, just install DirectX and update the video card driver. The game is not demanding.

Try downloading a repack of the game from third-party sites, install and run it to check.
Or install some standalone global mod. The game is usually included there.

Strange, very strange mmm

Have you tried disabling Steam Overlay and Steam Input? Some games like Max Payne 1/2 would refuse to run no matter what else I did, til I disabled those two Steam options

Might be worth a shot. I had trouble getting Painkiller running as well, so if that doesn't work I could list my entire setup that made the game run

I actually had not tried that yet, but unfortunately it still will not work. Just a fullscreen of black for a second or two, and then it closes out.

If I do end up finding what is wrong and get the game working, I will post my findings here just in case somebody else needs to know.

I also can not get mine to work.
