Hover Junkers - Junk Road: Start Guide
Hover Junkers - Junk Road is out of Beta!

After testing of the Junk Road in the pubic beta for 8 months the official release is out! Below is a start guide to help you play the NEW single player mode. This gamemode is basically a VR reimagining of a Oregon Tail esk game set in the Hover Junkers universe. It also helps to explore the state of the universe and show some of the larger version of the Multiplayer maps.

How to Start the Junk Road?

The Junk Road can be accessed from inside Gunther’s Bar like all the other game modes. (Team Deathmatch, Free For All, Buzz Bots). Just cycle between the game modes until “Junk Road” appears then click “Create”. Then select your “Profession” and “Loadout”. Just to note the ship select screen has no effect on single player aside from your character's hands ingame.

NOTE: A Junk Road play-through should take at least 1 hour on average and could take 2 or more hours if you read and make more calculated choices, and hunt a lot. THERE IS NO SAVE POINTS in game. If you quit you lose your progress and have to start from the beginning. You have been warned.

What are the different Professions for?

The options are basically a difficulty setting for how difficult your Journey will be to complete. It mostly determine how many resources you start with and a few perks or negatives while on the road. Trader (EASY), Junk Hunter (Medium), Mechanic (Hard). Each of these difficulties have a default loadout of “Items” you start with but however we highly recommend you make a few changes or additions. Just make sure you leave some money for when your on the road.

NOTE: Changing your profession will change the quantities of “Items” you have selected on the screen. So make sure you are on the difficulty you want before you change the “Items” you are taking with you.

What are the different "Items" you can buy when you start a new Junk Road game and what do they do?
  • Engine Parts - (These are parts to help you repair an engine when it becomes damaged. Without having one of these parts handy you could lose 1 of your 6 engines as it will become permanently damaged.)
  • Fuel - (Fuel is for your Junker to travel the Junk Road, without it you will be stuck on the side of the road where your journey can come to an end if you don’t have any items to trade with another passing trader.)
  • Extinguisher - (For when your ship/engine catches fire, If you can’t put out the fire your engines can all fail because of heat damage to them.)
  • Rations - (Are what you and your Junker Family need to survive on the Junk Road, without rations your and their health will lessen and will have a higher chance of becoming sick easier)
  • Ammo - (Is used to kill animals while hunting on the Junk Road so you can keep your rations topped off while traveling to the new world)
  • Camping Gear - (This is used at POI - Campsites: At these sites you can rest to heal and attempt to cure sickness. Sickness can sometimes take many days to get over and take a lot of Camping Gear to cure.)
  • Oil - (Used to help your engines from seizing up from all the dust, dirt, rust, and swap water along the way. Without some extra Oil one of your engines might become permanently seized up and broken.)
  • Grandfather Clock - (While you can’t use this item on the Junk Road itself, these items can be sold or traded at trade posts for money and supplies. Also they might be worth some extra points at the end!)
  • Narcotics - (This is another “Item” that has no direct or real use while traveling on the Junk Road but has a high value to buy and sell, and can be found on the trip if your lucky.)

What does the Speed and Ration Menus In-Game mean?

Stop, Steady, Strenuous, and Grueling are different speeds at which your ship can go on the Junk Road. Steady is slow but safe, Strenuous is faster but more riskier, and Grueling is fastest and most risky. The faster you go the more fuel you use and the more damage your engines take so make sure to strike a balance! A Grueling pace can use a lot of resources and might leave you stranded if your engines all break. NOTE: You need 5 of your 6 engines to go at a Grueling pace and 3 of your 6 to go at a Strenuous pace. The more engines you lose the slower you are forced to go. And you can’t fix them once they are permanently broken.

Bare, Meager, Filling are the three states your ration consumption can be set to. Your Junker Families health will decrease the less food they get making them more prone to sickness and death. If you run out of rations everyone will start dying (even yourself). Only on the “Filling” setting will you and your family eat enough to gain a little bit of health back. If you are sick filing will not be enough for you to gain health only decrease how much you loose from the sickness. Make sure to keep an eye on how many rations you have left.

How do I manage NPC's Health and how do I cure a sickness?

NPC's Health will only increase while your set to the "Filling" (the ration setting). However this is a small amount of HP over time. And a NPC's health will not increase at all if they are sick even when set to "Filling". You have to cure a sickness before they can be healed.

To cure sickness or Heal a NPC quick you have to visit a POI. A campsite or Settlement POI has two very different ways of healing or curing sickness. At a Campsite POI you have a rest option this uses Camping Gear for each night you stay. Each night you stay heals your NPC's a certain amount and has a chance of curing their sickness. This means sometimes you can stay 2 nights can cure a sickness while other times it can take 14 nights to cure your NPC. At a Settlement POI you have an INN you can stay at this will cure any sickness and Heal all crew members in one night. The only thing is this costs money. So pick and choose which you should waist to keep your crew alive.

Are there plans to add save points to the campaign in the future?
ProMacGyver  [开发者] 2018 年 9 月 5 日 下午 3:31
We discussed having save points when we started getting things flushed out for the Junk Road. However it was decided by others that we were not going to have save points along the way in the final version. Thanks for the question sorry it's not the answer I'm sure you/I were hopping to hear.

Why in the world would "others" decide not to have save points!? If I have only a few minutes to a half hour to play, I have to start all over when I come back to it?

We watched a youtube video to be able to launch the Junk Road!

Then, unfortunately me and my son didn't manage to get past the hunt. It doesn't response to button pressing etc. I'm not sure if it's a bug? We have played lots of VR games since 2016 but this is among the hardest user interface. Why add buttons in the game that you can't push? I think this is probably the most important thing to keep simple in a VR game.

Now, I will read this post to see if we have patience to make a third try of this game.
