Controllers - how do you do it?
Bit of background, I'm a long time PC keyboard and mouse player. In Warframe my favorite way is Lex Prime headshots from halfway across the map. Yes, I am that old.
For medical reasons I need to keep my legs up a lot for a while so I've been trying some Link & controller stuff again. My wife actually ordered a Deck for my bd in this period also to use in travels. Things like Dark Souls, Spiritfarer, etc, work nicely, and I suspect zero issues for e.g. Rimworld, ONI, and the like. But I really want to be playing FO4.

I don't even manage to aim properly at the radroaches in the intro before they're toe to toe with me! Can't manage to keep up with their forward movement with these camera controls. Or when I switch sensitivity up enough I get wildly inaccurate which is even worse.
I'm sure there's a balance and some git gud involved, but as it is there's not even a viable foundation to build up practice from.

I tried adding the gyro on left grip for improved accuracy, but that keeps tripping me up because apparently the speed of turning matters. What I need is that it'll return to centered view when I shift my hands back to that position, not somewhere halfway through because the turning speed is slower. It's debilitating to always have to manually correct my view after every single use of gyro aiming.
It doesn't help that the movement jiggled the wire loose after a while and crashed the game with partial nonsensical input (I hate batteries, will not use them when a device can be wired)
I'm not sure that I'd use gyro in the deck when that comes in anyway - turning my screen away feels silly. Feels like gyro is not the way.

Now I know that I will never do rapid pinpoint sniping with a controller the way I'm used to with my mouse.
But shooting stuff before it gangs up on you should be sort of functional in this game, right?

How!?

Even though I cannot use a controller myself, I suspect the answer will be:

Practice.

It really seems like most of the people who start with this game using their controllers already have several in their lives from other consoles and gaming systems. Many 'kids these days' *(asterisk: they aren't kids lol most are full grown adults) grew up with an assortment of devices and hardly touch a k/m since they have more access to their games on a console system.

I've tried watching my housemate who would play some pc games using one or another controller and just.

Cringed the entire time. Because I personally know I could both mop the floor with whatever he was doing (not a mp game, just ... playing some random normal thing) using k/m but also that if *I* tried using the controller I would simply have to give up.
