Wurm is one of a kind and furthermore, you shouldn't ever expect another game like it.

Thanks to the way the gaming industry has gone, developers make more money selling idiots loot boxes than they do making good games. It is no longer profitable to make something like Wurm.

Closest games you might enjoy:

Life is Feudal (as mentioned)
Vintage Story (not on steam but a more Wurmlike minecraft)
Pax Dei (Haven't personally tried it but I have seen others compare it to Wurm, looks like a hefty entry fee for something that won't really deliver the experience I am looking for.)
Haven and Hearth (Seen this compared, havent personally played in years, wasn't my jam)
Ultima Online or any of it's smaller forks (Ruins and Riches, Adventures of Alkabeth, etc.)

Main things that stand out to me in Wurm that literally no other game contends with.
1. Fully terraformable terrain.
2. Seasons.
3. Extensive crafting system including making things from different materials.
4. Open sandbox that isn't guiding you from point A to point B with golden exclamation points essentially telling you "What to do" (I enjoy the freedom to make my own gameplay)

There are other things to be said, but at the end of the day, Wurm is quite a niche, everyone says they want a Wurm 2 but I suspect it wouldn't do well commercially (unfortunately).

would be nice to see a mainstream game that does what Wurm does, but it's a pretty small portion of potential players that would be interested, and an even smaller portion that would play it regularly. One day, someone with deep pockets will carry the torch forward, but I don't expect any spiritual successor to Wurm to ever draw large numbers of players long term. just requires too much of players in terms of time and emotional investment, and very few players are willing (or able) to do that. There's a reason Minecraft exploded and Wurm did not.

Thank you for this reply, i agree with everything you said. I have played lots of life is fuedal, it is the game that got me into wurm. But i feel abit limited when building in wurm(thats really my only complaint in wurm) and thats why i was wondering if there are any alternatives. As i thought and as you said there really isnt anything like it, so i will continue to play wurm. About the other games you have mentioned, i heard about pax die but like you said its a hefty fee for what it is and for what it Isnt. Ill check out the rest :D. Thanks

Yep, you are right. I was hoping for Pax Dei, but it turned out its not really like LiF and Wurm, plus the devs seem to be greedy already. Then there is Mortal Online 2, i had hopes for it but well... it is what it is.

This video has been gaining some traction for Wurm Online, it's an interesting take that aligns with most of our thoughts it seems. I have been working on a Wurm Unlimited server that will at least bring something new and fresh to the table but it won't be ready for a few more months yet... :)

It's the best we can do until some mysterious benefactor decides to bring us Wurm 2, keep working with what we've got! Hope to see you all in the realm.
