AMD GPU Water Crash Fix
We are looking into a crash with AMD GPUs (seems to only affect 7 series GPUs?). To fix the issue:

-Right click Black Mesa on Steam and go to "Properties..."
-Under "General" you will see a dialogue box for launch commands
-Add +nr_gbuffer_for_secondary_cams_enabled 0 +cl_mdldetailfx_enable 0 to the dialogue box

and you should be all set.

We apologize for anyone experiencing this issue!

Please use this thread specifically for the AMD GPU Water crash. Let us know if it fixes the issue, or if you are still experiencing it and what GPU you have.

Thank you!

Vee vant zee teknikal detailz und vee vant zem nau.
Will have to test your fix tomorrow but just thought I would copy paste my comment here.

7900 GRE here. The water crash only seems to happen once per a body of water. Once it crashes and I reload I can then pass through that section no problems. The next body of water though is a coin flip. Thought that might help you troubleshoot.
Glad to see there's already a workaround.

The workaround works for me!
May i ask what kind of "collateral" secondary consequences should i expect while using this command?

Stumbled upon this at the end of Surface Tension, unfortunately this fix hadn't solved it.
Playing on Kubuntu 22.04 on X11 using 6750 XT and if relevant Ryzen 9 5900X CPU.

Unlike ThiccWick, I cannot reload as the game crashes immediately upon loading a quicksave or after about a minute after loading in from an older save file.

I was experiencing very hard crashes during the water section in Unforeseen Consequences. Fully updated windows 10 64 pro and my 7900xtx gpu drivers and was still getting hard crashes/locked up. This fix actually solved the issue for me, however. I'll let you know if I have recurring problems. Thank you!
Reported to AMD for good measure. Using a 7900 XTX.

Didn't get a crash, using an RX 7800XT. Might be because I'm using SpecialK so one of the injected dlls could have done something, I don't know.

What I did get are broken water reflections depending on which angle I look at the water, like the "hall of mirrors" effect when being out of bounds. I changed the water reflection settings and tried the above commands without success.

I wish I had seen this before. xD
For me, it only seemed to be an issue in Apprehension, during the area with the two Ichthyosaurs. All other water areas were fine (so far).

I was able to get past the area by dropping Dynamic Lights Quality to 'Potato'.
It stopped the crash and I was able to get past the area. Once I finished that water area, I raised the DLQ setting back to 'Ultra' and haven't had any issues since. (again, knock on wood)

For reference, I have a 7900XTX in a Precision 7910.
Also, it never really seemed to fully crash the game for me. It would "crash" back to desktop, but the game would keep running and after the sound glitch, it would sound normal. I was never able to find an actual crash log.

Will this be fixed at some point? I actually refunded the game before becasue of this.
I'm experiencing a different kind of bug - when Vorts teleport in during the mid point of Focal Point. Just get kicked out to Windows. It's exactly as they teleport in, and it really doesn't matter if you look the other way. Not sure why this is happening, but currently running with an Radeon 580 on WIndows 10, with 32GB RAM. Framerates a really good, and no lag issues.
