With so many bugs and lack of time, why doesn't the Dev just ask for help
If the Dev has the balls, he should put the source code up on github and just ask for help with the crashes. People can make fixes and do pull requests that he can review.
At least the crashes would get fixed for minimal to no effort on his part and he has nothing to lose at this rate other than getting some quality and polish put into his game and maybe save his reputation.
The amount of people who'd just compile the game to play for free would be minimal since most aren't that tech inclined and the rest aren't that deceitful. Most of us have some kind of honor towards other devs.

Consider this my follow-up review of the game, I suppose.

It's same as with the latest, out of respect for the culture and the lore, three unnamed Star Wars movies.
Objectively good and unique as the original Gratuitous Space Battle was and is - the developer has a mentality of a grade school student, and didn't take kindly to more than well deserved criticism and negative reception of the "sequel" - GSB2 is most literally, less than a copy-paste of the original game, it manages to have less content, bugs, borderline no balance whatsoever, like, it's generous and merciful to say it's a train-wreck. With Mostly Negative reviews of 38% percent, which in reality should be far far lower from my experience with some of the worst and lazily made games e.g. BIOMUTANT or Jedi Fallen Order despite their price tags, Mixed and Positive reviews respectively.

GSB2 is so far down the hole, dug by its developer right alongside it, holding a shovel, anyone trying to fix the game would essentially be making a new game.

And the thing is - the internet's capable of forgiving, people love these stories, take Hello Games and No Man's Sky for the perfect example, in this case however, GSB2's developer would rather shove their head in the sand and close their eyes and ears, instead of continuing the success of GSB they chose easy and quick money. You know the person's . . . uh, haha, less than mature when they're calling people "toxic" or "children" or even both, in Steam discussions, after receiving an appropriate criticism for the incompetence or laziness or both, hypocritical and sad really.

If the game's developer see's this, hi, grow the ♥♥♥♥ up dude, otherwise, in all honesty and seriousness, I doubt you'll survive in this industry, or at best struggle, which is no way to live really.
Now, to my fellow GSB players, it's best you forget GSB2 exists, it's a lost cause, it didn't have to be a lost cause, the developer made it a lost cause, including at this point, themselves, but I digress.
Unless you enjoy the ship hull's appearance editor, new shield animations, different mechanics or like to mess with modules and hulls files, I guess it's not a completely loss of time, but then again, the original Gratuitous Space Battles actually has mods made for it, quite a few nice mods in fact, and it's easier to experiment with to make some neat battles by rewriting existing modules and hulls.

Wish the rest of you a happy New Year! May it be better at least, would say it can't get any worse, but . . . 2021 happened, so quite a lot is possible, apparently.

I paid for allegedly finished and content-complete game, got less than an alpha-state release - buying the game and freedom of speech gives us every right in this world to review and criticise the game as we desire, deal with it, but if you've a problem with that however . . . yeah, don't count on reclaiming any credibility or respect as an independent game developer whatsoever, ever.

Won't be subscribed to the discussion to see any replies, knock yourself out, as you did with some of the other posts.
