How do security turrets work?
They seems to do nothing for me at all. And there is a strange inventory menu for the security turrets, but the game doesn't tell you what to put in there...

You can put SMG weapons into the security turrets, and prior to an attack on the reactor, just flip the power switch in the small room just outside the door. They'll then fire on enemies in their cone of vision automatically.

They're not capable of defending the reactors by themselves, so don't think you can ever truly 'automate' the defense process. The stronger the SMG you use, the better the turret becomes as well.

I think there is something I might be forgetting, but that's the gist of it.

Oh man, I tried using my pistol AND my shotgun there.
Both didn't work.

Do attachments on the SMGs work?

I defended against the first 8-10 waves now without any help from the SMGs.
That ♥♥♥♥ is annoying...

It doesn't work for me though... Do the SMGs need attachments or something?

Yes, all guns need their three pieces. The body part, heat sink part and the barrel part. The better the pieces, the better the gun, the better the turret. You'll usually find enough of those attachments either lying around or attached to other guns, so i'd suggest just stripping weapons and using those until you've got ore coming in and can start mass-fabricating your own pieces.

I think this could have been explained in some way. I managed like half of the game without turrets thinking i might find them somewhere. Turns out, you put assembled SMGs in there... A pity you can't put other weapons inside (at least pistols for smaller rate of fire but higher damage and range).

nice to know this, I just piled furniture around the cores and the AI was nice enough to wait for their turn to eat a photon grenade.
