Ember Frequently Asked Questions
How long is Ember?

On normal difficulty we are seeing around 30 hours, and on hard around 40 hours. The length of the game depends a lot on how much you explore, how fast you read, how many books you read, how much crafting you do, and if you do every side quest.

Does this game support Steam Cloud?
Yes, Ember supports Steam Cloud.

Where are the save games located?
They are located in the <My Documents>/Ember folder.

What languages are supported?
The game only supports English at this time.

Will the game be available on other platforms, like GOG?
Right now we are focused on Steam, but we would love to release on other distribution platforms in the future.

Does the game have controller support?
Ember doesn't support controllers.

Can you play in windowed mode?
There is a special development windowed mode option you can use. Right click the game in your Steam library, select Properties, click "Launch Commands" then type "winmode" without the quotes. The will then start in windowed mode from then on. Note, though, that this is an unsupported mode and you may find some strange issues with window focus and mouse controls.

I can't figure out how to do something in the game!
We're seeing some people get hung up on some parts of the game that require dragging items. For instance, some quests require you to drag an item off the ground onto something else (like an altar). Some quests require you to drag a particular item from your inventory onto something. Also, to use lockpicks, you drag the lockpick out of your inventory onto the locked door or chest you want to open.

I've come across a locked door I can't seem to open, is the game broken?
While playing Ember you will occasionally come across locked doors that you don't have the key to, and lockpicking doesn't work on them. There is one right in the first room of the game! This is intentional - these doors are for future quests and you will get the keys to these doors, or end up behind them because you entered the area from somewhere else. And don't worry too much about remembering the locations of these doors, the quests will lead you right to them if it is time to open them.

Is there a list of all the recipes I've learned or discovered?
Yes! If you go to the Journal and click the anvil icon at the top of the window you will find the recipe journal.

Where can I find ore?
Ore is mined from ore nodes in the world. You will come across them while exploring, and you just need to have a mining pick in your inventory to be able to mine them. There are five types of ore you can mine, they are located generally in the areas listed below:

Copper - Northern Forest, Southern Forest
Iron - Southern Forest, Farmlands
Silver - Bog of Souls
Coal - West Coast, Near Ember Mines
Mithril - Cliffs of Giants, Shepherd Plains

Note that some blacksmiths also have a limited supply of each type of Ingot that you can use to craft items.
