microstutter starts after about 30 minutes, any ideas?
I didn't have this before and played through the game just last year with the same machine, it starts fine and the stutter gets worse and worse, about half an hour in and it's like a there's a constant stepping in the framerate.

I checked processes and it's Just steam that's eating up memory there so I turned off steam overlay, and that didn't help either. It is not the location related tiny freezes, it's like a constant rhythm change in the framerate.

any ideas?

Verify the game files:

If you play on a laptop, try disabling any powersaving modes and keep an eye on temperatures.

If that didn't help, have you done multiplayer with random people lately? It's a long shot, but perhaps it's the result of someone cheater's failed attempt at injecting an invalid item to cause a crash-loop or some other cheater-related shenanigans.
Again, a long shot, but it's simple enough to test for this. Just back up your old save, then make a fresh save file and play for a bit.

Hey thanks a lot for the reply, I'm on a desktop and already verified the files, also tried lowering resolution/settings and didn't do a thing.

Was about to rule out the third option because I haven't done any multiplayer lately, but may have happened before. Before seeing your reply I had checked another char to see it's weapons and realized there was less stutter there but had thought it was just me. I also am having a randomly hard time connecting the game servers, it only connects on my second try after I click try again. Sounds suspicious after reading your long shot possibility.

So if that's the case is there anything I can do? Or is it just bye bye to that char or even the entire save file with the chars?

It probably be bye-bye to that char and savefile just to be sure, though you could keep it as a trophy-save of sorts.

But
since you've mentioned connection issues, try playing offline and see if you still get those performance issues.

A few weeks back, i've read similar posts from people having performance-issues after playing for a bit. Connectivity issues were also mentioned.

DS2 (and all soulsgames) has had a major netcode exploit found, which even caused the publisher to disable online for all soulsgames for months, while trying to fix it (since it's been de-listed the original DS1 remains unpatched and offline to this day).

Maybe whatever change they've made has bugs, that could cause performance degradation for people with connection issues. Connection issues in general are also more common, since the big netcode exploit fix.

Thanks for all the ideas, still can't find no solution, I realized it was the amount of times I died during that session that was triggering the stutter not playtime, the more I die the worse the stutter gets.

Others seem to be experiencing this also, and seems it's a new thing, so might actually have something to do with the servers like you said.

Then it should be easy to test and reproduce. You can just keep running off a cliff in offline mode. If it's still happening, it's unrelated.

Also, if you happen own the original vanilla Dark Souls II, you can try to see if the FPS-drops after dying are also reproducible there.

What are your system specs, btw? Both hardware and OS. You should also ask that question to people in the other thread(s), because you could have something in common, that can kickstart more troubleshooting.
