But the short answer is if something moves or changes position while you're in the cabin, then you press red. Many anomalies/hauntings are only triggered when you go upstairs and there's one really sneaky one where you have to stand in a specific part of the cabin to reveal the haunting.
This is the devs being sneaky with the story. These are custom horror cabins so the clients can ask for all sorts of set-ups. The girl under the stairs doesn't count as she never moves and it's just that the client wanted her there, creeping people out.
It doesn't matter what has changed in the house each time. The only thing that matters is if something is literally visibly moving
The plushies are fine, if they move position since entering, then that's when you click the "DANGER" button.
