I believe it's still available but i've never obtained one in any version of the game I've played. When you encounter a gargoyle look for 3 bell icons in their statues window to see if they will drop a rare item, but it must be a really rare low chance of it happening. There are more gargoyles later in the game, which I think you can farm for it if you just want to proceed.

Looking at a Monster List it says Gargoyles r found in only Garnia Tower & Liligue Cave (whatever that is), so i guess ur meaning Liligue Cave?

I've obtained the sword before. To maximise your chances, repeatedly run from each battle until you get 3 bells on the Gargoyle. If you don't get the drop by the last solo Gargoyle, reload your save and try again.

I got sick of re-loading, especially considering theres no exit to Main Menu option & u have to Quit to Desktop & then restart the game before u can reload, so i'll try to find the Sword of Purity in the Liligue Cave as mentioned above.

Some of the item drops in Grandia II are apparently flagged as "Rare" drops, even when they're already the Triple Bell drop, which makes them even tricker to get. Getting the Sword of Purity in Garmia Tower is definitely a gold saver in the long run (since it's useful until Liligue Cave when the next stronger weapon is found, though it's useful even beyond then due to certain enemies), so you won't need to buy a new sword for Ryudo for a while.

There are other items like the Sword of Purity later in the game, so don't feel slighted when you run across a Triple Bell enemy that has the drop you're after and it only leaves gold upon defeat. (Notable items I recall this happening with: Dragon Wand, Jet-Black Cape, Tight Dress, Reflect Mail, Soul of Asura (only a small handful of encounters with the enemy that drops it in the entire game, a couple of which cannot be escaped from and have no save point immediately before them!), Mana Crystals, Charming Heels, Red Hair Ribbon, many of the stat-boosting Seeds, and Brave Dirk.)

I was planning to grind the gargoyles in Liligue Cave for the Sword of Purity, but now that u've mentioned theres another strong sword there as well, maybe i'll grind for that too if it's an item drop.

I'm pretty sure the sword he's referencing in Liligue is a treasure pickup, not an enemy drop.

I tried for about 1.5hrs but got a bit tired of just fighting the same 3 Gargoyles on the 3rd Floor of Garnia Tower all the time, so i just ended-up continuing on with the story.
I'll try & get the Sword of Purity when i get to Liligue Cave, since it sounds like u can grind that area over & over, unlike Garnia Tower, where i had to re-load every time i didn't get what i was looking for.

It took some time to get the first one in Garmia Tower and it was helpful, but it wasn't THAT helpful like "I won't need to buy a new sword for like half the game", so there's no need to grieve over bad drop luck. I also didn't use the "run until 3 bells" tactic but just fought them how I encountered them. 90% of the time I didn't get a single bell, but in the end I got one and by the time I was in the catacombs I got 2 or 3 more.

I got mine Sword in Garmia Tower after around 1h of reloading - I was doing it at 2 Gargoyles battle at last floor, It droped from 3 star mob.

still dropped there, took some time - first off kill all spiders then save - dont fight the gargoyles yet
after saving enter a fight with gargoyle and flee if it doesnt have 3 bells on target window. if one has 3 bells kill it(i did it with crit because u think with critical it drops more likely, but can be my imagination) sometimes you get only coins as drop then move on to next gargoyle and repeat. if all 3 dropped coins for you reload your save via alt + f4 and restart game
