Unable to Add to Library / Family Sharing Issue *RESOLVED*
Update: The awesome folks over at Valve have managed to resolve this issue - if you're still encountering this issue or something similar, please do report it in this thread.

Hi all,

It looks like theres a number of threads going on about this so I decided to create a central thread rather than keep track of 5 different ones.

A number of people appear to be unable to add the game to their library. If this is happening to you, please reply to this thread with as much detailed, clear and concise information as possible.

From some threads I've read it's possible family sharing settings might be affecting this, so please include in your reply your full history with Life is Strange and family sharing. Did you previously play it through family sharing? Are you currently playing it through family sharing? etc. etc.

I´m one of the people unable to load the 1. episode. It was available to me through family sharing via a friend, but i didn´t play or download it beforehand. Using windows 10 as of a couple of days now.

Thanks - And is family sharing currently enabled for you? If it is, what happens if you disable it?

My brother has this game (all episodes) and he shares his library to me. I didn't ever played or installed this game. When I clicked on the button "Play Game" in the store i get promt "Chacking for Steam games updates" and then njthing. OS Win10 64

That was probably because you Developer disabled the episode 2-5 upgrade.

You may have to login to the main steam account that you are sharing from on the computer you want to play it on and install it using the MAIN account then it may let you to use yours after. I just helped another guy in the ARK chat having an issue with family share not allowing him to download The Center map DLC for the game. Had him log into the MAIN account on the computer he wanted to play it on and install it, then after log back into his shared account and it worked for him.

I just want it in my library so i could download it in the near future with a new PC cus my PC now is not that good and i dont want to ruin the experience of playing it with a crappy PC

The episode will remain free indefinitely, whether you have it in your library or not.

I got the family sharing with a friend of mine and since yesterday I was able to play. Then, when the 1st episode become free I cannot play the game and when I press play Steam says that it's checking for game updates and in a few seconds it goes to the Shop page.
I'm following this thread..and as soon as possibile I'll try with the zeroxxx solution.
But if somone really found a solution please post it

I did it, still cant play. When I click Play button it goes to the game store!

I had played this game through family sharing. But since the first episode becomes free (yesterday), I'm unable to play. When I press play, Steam says: "checking for game updates" and then it goes to the Shop page. The store says also to me: "Already in your library" but its NOT showing there, neither in my own lib nor in the shared lib.

The store says that i already have the game in my library but isn't showing in it.

I can't add it to my library, even when the store says I already have it, or download it too, I have family share, but this game isn't among them, haven't played it ever, tryied closing steam and restarting it, but nothing works, everytime I click to play from the store, it says something like: "Steam is checking for game updates" on a pop-up for about 10 seconds and then it closes and nothing else happens.

I've added the game. downladed completely. and it was in my list. Howver if I unstall it it removes my list and doesent show as i have the game anymore. I have family share enabled, However I am the main account. and the family share account is barely ever on steam and doubt has played this or installed this.

My friend shared his libary with me, and i played LiS almost till the end, but stopped it playing...i decided to get Episode 1 for free, but doesn't appear in my libary, and neither in the shared games of my friend. I could start it from the steam store, but every time when im clicking on play it says: "Steam is checking for game updates" and than nothing happens...the game is deleted from my HDD...any help?
