[SPOILERS!] Official Portal Stories: Mel Timeline
Hey everyone, as there have been some questions and confusion I decided to make this brief little timeline of events for Portal Stories: Mel and their relation to the official games.

1952
  • Portal Stories: Mel (Chapter 1) begins with Mel heading to Aperture for the Short Term Relaxation Vault test.

20XX
  • The events of Portal 1 occur.
  • With GLaDOS deactivated, various cores are seen activating.
  • The events of the Lab Rat comic occur, Doug sets Chell to be test subject 001 with an uncertain wake date.

20XX (+50 days)
  • 50 days after the events of Portal 1, Chell is briefly awoken for her mandatory physical and mental wellbeing exercises.

Far Future???
  • The rest of Portal Stories: Mel happens, Mel is woken and guided through the facility by Virgil, after setting AEGIS to shutdown, Mel leaves Aperture.
  • AEGIS runs its final procedure to drain the facility reserve power and wake the remaining test subjects. (Chell is presumably the only survivor) AEGIS shuts down.
  • The main events of Portal 2 occur, Chell leaves Aperture.

This is very helpful!

Hmm, Chell is presumably the only survivor? What about the other five test subjects Wheatley talks about during his boss fight rant?

@BabyCharmander It is hard to tell if he is just lying about that to try and make you feel jealous, its hard to make timelines when your only sources of information are 2 AIs who love to lie and joke at the players expense xD

Than were does Wheatly come from because the Ping List from AEGIS didn't target him. Nor did he Chell? "Because they were offline or not awake" That doesn't make sense either, because he targeted GLaDOS while she was still offline. This makes me crave more for a portal 3 or something like this ;-;. The feels are real in this one.

@Forsaken Wolf, AEGIS only targets things it considers to be threats to the staff and registered testers at Aperture. Mel was an unregistered tester unlike Chell, Virgil was helping her out and both were deemed targets, GLaDOS of course killed everyone so she is a target as well. At this point however none of the other active cores had done anything AEGIS considered to be dangerous so are not targets to him.

Better question is what is the timeline regarding to Half-life events. It is said (by HL wikia timeline) that Portal 1 occurs shortly after combine invasion, and we can see Mel escaped into something that looked alot like post-apocalyptic scenario. So the question is, how far in the future she is. Gordon Freeman reemerged probably 10-15years after Portal 1 event after already being held up to 10 years in stasis himself. Did Mel just escaped into combine filled world, jumping from bad to worse? So many questions... either way, I think her story just begun.

... But wtf does 2056 mean? I even got the achievement and I STILL don't know

Is this storyline canon? For such a small team you presumably had the help of valve. If so do they consider this canon or just a mod?

@Branyioun Nope we did not have any help from Valve and we are just a mod.

Are there going to be more "Portal Stories"

I HAVE TO KNOW
Did virgil die?
coz virgil needs power to survive which was mentioned in the game and at the end when you shut down aegis all the power in the facility is shut down

so.... No Power = No more power for virgil = virgil shut downs = death

I hope there will be more portal stories

I'm not one of the folks who worked on the game, but I think I know this one...

I don't think so--Aperture has to have SOME amount of power left before GLaDOS turns back on. The reserve power ran out, which meant the facility stopped waking up the test subjects in storage... and yet the testing tracks are still powered, meaning Aperture put prority on testing rather than the test subjects themselves. Aperture logic. :P

Well, after the end, AEGIS wakes up chell, which we all know leads to GLaDOS' reactivation, and subsequent return of full power. So Virgil is still floating around somewhere waaaaaay across the facility from GLaDOS, happily powered.

could also be that there are many test subjects but only chell got woke up before power ran out/wheatley interfered since she was 001 on the list
