Over 25 years later, the Mighty Bombers are back to reign supreme as global soccer/futbol overlords. (Even Russia's Cagey Bees aren't gonna stop me)

Game is running smoothly, thank you Mega Cat Studios for bringing this to Steam!

Mega Cat Studios and Playground Productions have been going above and beyond in revitalizing the beloved 'Backyard Sports' brand. Not only has their social media game been fantastic with their frequent posting schedule and dedicated response frequency to fans (highlighting their unmistakable enthusiasm for this series), but the process of bringing these classic games to Steam has been nothing but successful so far. We saw this a month ago with 'Backyard Baseball 97' and now they've done it again with 'Backyard Soccer 98'. And while I've certainly enjoyed my time with Baseball 97... I won't lie when I say that as a kid, I always gravitated more toward the Backyard Soccer games. To make a long story short, it's immensely satisfying to finally have this one out.

It's the original Backyard Soccer, so gameplay is extremely basic and fairly unchallenging, but I stand by my position that this version of the game has the best season play in the entire Backyard Sports franchise. Fighting your way up to the top tier via promotion/relegation, the midseason indoor tournament that adds a fun twist, and the World Cup-like tournament at the end of the season once you've earned promotion to the top flight. This is the game that got me into soccer more than any other when I was a little kid.
