Third time now I finished NH 1/2. Definitely, definitely fits the criteria of gourmet horror of the early 2010s. It also just so happens to be a F.E.A.R. inspired HL 2 mod. It's a case of IYKYK. Not going to win any "scary game" awards by today's standards but it's still as visceral and satisfying as ever.

Underhell steam version when? (Rhetorical question.)

I played it so many times as a kid and it still got me to curse myself when it got spooky. Recommend it even after its been released a decade ago!

WCS releasing this as a mod that doesn't require another site is honestly great. If you're into being spooked, play it.

Nostalgia goggles off, this is an amazing mod, try it out if you like horror and source mods! The amount of love and care that went into this project is insane and everybody who worked on it should be happy about what they accomplished!

They say the Source engine has an eerie feeling by default, and even back then it seems this game took advantage of that and became an instant classic among HL2 mods. The first game, which is now the prologue to it all still kept some of its defining Source traits and tropes, some parts of it may be too cliché to some, however, I think it only adds to its charm. It's been over a decade since I first played this, and I think it holds up very well to this day as one of the best horror oriented Source games.
I'm curious to see where they go with the reimagining, the only worry I have is if they'll be able to emulate the same feeling that this one emitted so well, but thankfully it's even easier now to get back to the classic in any case.
So wake up, and experience the peak of nightmares.

A Source Engine horror mod classic!

I remember playing the original mod as far back as 2010. So wild to think this little short horror mod has left such a lasting impression on me in terms of modding and game development. It fills me with joy knowing that WeCreateStuff are still around and at it with community engagement and support.

Whenever the 2015 update came around, I made a review of the whole experience back then. I can't remember much in terms of what has changed with this new Steam version compared to the ol' 2015 version (it has been 8 years, how time flies!)

Same as it always was, isn't it? This mod just keeps sending me back again. It's interesting how you can find comfort in any familiar game, even a familiar horror Source mod. Wake up, it's time for the real Nightmare to begin!
