Knight Squad
How to get 8 local players?
Has anyone got 8 players working on this?

It seems that you can only connect a maximum of 4 Xbox controllers to a PC so I'm interested to know if anyone got 8 players working and how.

We're not using XInput for the controls. We are using Direct Input that supports up to 32 controllers to my knowledge. We know it works out of the box with Xbox controllers wired or wireless (with 2 Wireless receivers). It should normally work with any controllers but let us know if you run into issues so we can deal with those!
Thanks a lot. I shall test it with 2 wireless receivers when I get the chance as well as some PlayStation 2 controllers I have.
I'd like to see a way to custom keybind like Crawl so that I can have my keyboard set up for a few players in addition to the controllers

Just as I worried, no such keybinds to be found in the game. Which can make a local co op game frustrating when as it is, it can be very difficult (and expensive!) to get enough controllers. I really hope that the dev keeps this in mind in future updates.

Hello. I've already written that suggestion on SUDB (for which I would still be happy to see a written/verbal confirmation that you're okay with us covering your game on - it's a blog for reviewing indie games basically - , if you're not after all, simply tell me here in the thread, via a message or an e-mail as seen on the review on SUDB, and I will remove it at once).

I'd suggest expanding the options. This game is a very nice spontaneous small party game, but the whole issue with needing an extra controller for every player sort of obstructs that.

1: Add custom keybindings. Not just that you can choose which buttons go to what, but also which buttons go to what for which player. That way, someone who has a lan or a meetup and doesn't have seven controllers/wireless adapters, can still play it as 4 players with two keyboards for instance. Or since gamers have that too, an option to control a knight with the mouse, if the mouse has enough buttons for it and they're aligned in the way you need them in.

2: (for when you got the online thing running) Add an option to play in a network, so that say if four players were playing on one computer, you could connect it to another one, where there's another up to 4 players.

3: Add an option to make it impossible to face extraoctagonal directions. You know why. The game is best played with a controller, giving people who use a keyboard a disadvantage, because they can only face up, down, left right, up-left, up-right, down-left, and down-right. You have an advantage over those who are, if you are not limited to that set of directions.

Again, these are just suggestions with which I think the game would become more accessible to a broader customer base.

Thank you everyone for your responses. I hosted a LAN party, and no one had heard of this game. I told them you could play it with 8 players, and we just happened to have 3 wireless xbox 360 controllers and 5 wired xbox 360 controllers.

So we started up the game, but to no avail, we couldn't get it to run all the controllers. So we ended up just playing with four people against bots.

Thank you for all your suggestions! If you have any more, I'd really appreciate it.
I played this ok with 4 wireless xbox 360 controllers and 1 wired xbox 360 controller. Windows 7.

@DJSmacker Sorry for the late reply! Could you let me know what system you were running this? Windows, Mac, Linux? That will help me try to figure out what the problem might be!

Thanks!

Yeah! I'm using Windows 8.1 64bit, on a laptop. At least that's what we used during the LAN party.

Hey DJSmacker!

Sorry for the response delay. I just got to test this on a Win 8.1 64 bit laptop and everything worked flawlessly. I tried it with 7 wireless (2 wireless receivers) and 1 wired. The only issue I've encountered is that after plugging everything in, I had to restart my computer in order for it to work properly.

Windows can be quite picky when you plug in a bunch of controllers at once. I don't know if you tried restarting everything after plugging in, but it solved my issues all the time!

Let me know if you're still experiencing troubles!

Cheers!
Thank you SO much for replying! I will try that the next I have 8 controllers all together. I own 4, so that I can play with friends when they come over.

And no, I hadn't tried restarting.

How can you use only 2 receivers and yet have 7 controllers attached?

Maybe you know something that I don't.

Thank you for the feedback!

A single Xbox 360 wireless receiver can handle 4 controllers at once. All you need to do is sync 4 controller per receiver. After the 4th controller, the lights on the controller won't light up but the controller is still working.

If you have any other questions, just poke me here again, I'll try to help as much as possible!
We only have one wireless Xbox receiver, so currently we play 4 wireless xbox 360 controllers and 4 PS4 controllers over Bluetooth. Working perfectly after some initial setup with syncing the controllers.

'Sup devs. First of all thanks for the awesome game!

This point needs more attention, custom keybindings would be great. Keyboards even though are not so good to play are way cheaper than controllers :)

Hey Pekeno!

I'm looking at adding in an alternative to that custom key binding soon after launch. I'm thinking about adding an option that you can activate that splits all controls in 2. That way, you'll be able to play 2 persons on a single controller or keyboard. Plus it will most likely add to the chaos :P

I hope that's a good alternative for you! :)
Please let me know what you think!
