I have played all x games since x2. I think that XR has a good campaign and overall comes close to X2 in terms of atmossphere and feeling.

most you can use just skunk
or just doking in others ships like destroyer bomber transport ones
most you add all ship to your squad and comad them

story is nice but a bit buggy

but you can finde fix for that too
still are on egosft mods
