Here's my two-ish cents
I would highly recommend buying a guitar from an actual shop so they can set it up properly. Sometimes when you buy a starter guitar online it could be sitting in a warehouse and need it's intonation set or even worse could have a warped neck. These are factors that will make learning with Rocksmith+ frustrating.
The long answer is, that's how I started playing OG Rocksmith. I was given a guitar and looking back at it, it's not a very good guitar. It had divets in the frets from the string being pressed down and who knows what else was wrong with it. But the important thing is that it was playable and worked with Rocksmith. Rocksmith+ is a lot better than OG Rocksmith in terms of actually teaching you guitar.
If you're not in the mindset of "I only like these bands and I don't want to play anything other than these bands so I won't play Rocksmith+." Then you should do well with RS+. In fact, you might find a lot of songs that you never heard before that you like. I know I sure have!
I also would recommend to anyone starting guitar not to rely on RS alone. Might be worth to still drive at sometimes that long to get lessons or take online courses with actual teachers checking your playing and giving you direct feedback on that to practise.
And don't get me wrong, I love Rocksmith, it's great, it's fun, it keeps me motivated, it's also cheap-ish, even plus is. But it's not a path to quick progress on it's own imho,
And while the lessons in RS+ are much better, they are still not even close to teach you enough on their own imho. But they are certainly enough to get you started on your guitar journey. And it's a good tool to have in your tool box.
I hadn't played guitar for 20 years before I picked up Rocksmith 2014, played 2014 for 6 months and RS+ came to steam so I got that and so far this year have put in over 300 hours between both versions and would say I'm getting way better.
You will see techniques in either versions you don't know and RS+ does a good job of separating lessons and making it easy to understand what everything is and how to learn techniques as well as putting them into really good practical example tracks.
I still find there to be missing a few bits and looking online for the names to certain techniques but I do think if you put in the hours it can make you good and RS+ seems to be geared toward newer players or amateurs and it does it well. I didn't go in just to play tracks I went in to learn and in my opinion RS+ does it well.
The sub price is moot as it depends on how much you intend to use it. I payed £100 in July for a year and have nearly 160 hours just in RS+ already.
Hot take here but honestly I have found R+ to be quicker to load, better with note detection and the UI is way better at handling large music collections. People just hate the subscription model and let that cloud their judgement.
As for learning, any version of Rocksmith will help you keep that instrument in your hands for longer and the more you play, the better you will get. At some point, you will want to try and work out some lessons so you can unlearn all of the bad habits you gave yourself but Rocksmith is just genuinely fun, even when first starting out. Having learned instruments classically in the past, I'd say that's pretty rare and where this game's value really lies.
Nice, didn't know they relisted it. Just tried looking it up on YouTube to see the difference but couldn't find any videos about it. So is it the same as the 2014 edition but they just removed the in game songs?
