Video guide and tutorials
Hey everyone,

My 13 episode guide is now finished. It starts with the Humble Merchant, and shows different mechanics of the game over 13 episodes, which will allow you to start building your own fleet and get your bearing in the game.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQ84eHWQ4F8&list=PLa53kfJdPTHCm7y1aLkWUaFqsVT3OIecR

I'll put the video's in a playlist in the right order https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLa53kfJdPTHCm7y1aLkWUaFqsVT3OIecR .

Furthermore, I now started making shor short tutorials on specific mechanics of the game. Those videos can be found in another playlist:

Hope you like it! Constructive criticism is always welcome!

Saw you on the official forums, hello!

If you're happy to keep making these for now and if possible - keep them tidy and clean, then I'll consider pinning this to the top of the forum so people can see it. If you're happy to.

Keep making them videos!

Heya! Thanks!

I just finished episode 13. I'm uploading them every 2 days for the reason that I'm currently going to be away from home for 2 months due to work, and I don't want my account to be seen as 'inactive'.

I'm coming back home every two weeks or so and I'll be happy to make more tutorials if people get stuck with things! So a sticky would be great, but only if you think the vids are good enough for it (I'm still pretty new to this youtube thing).

With clean, do you mean 'no swearing' and all that? If so, no worries at all! The episodes that are uploaded at the moment are indicative of 'me' :)

These episodes are more in a 'guide/walkthrough' form, but I'm thinking of also making 'short & sweet' tutorials later on, like I did for Ascent: The Space Game., Basically short tutorials covering specific topics, such as trading, bartering, building, ship types etc.

By "clean" I meant generally keep everything neat and tidy on here so it looks professional for a pinned thread. Having it kept tidy on YouTube as a playlist would be great also.

The odd swear word in the video series is fine, but not all out 'effing and blinding if you can.

Keep up the great work!

As far as I know, is nineteen start scenarios/episodes :
Terran Defender, USC Commander, Argon Patriot, Humble Merchant, Bancrupt Assassin, Tormented Teladi (own starting mini plot and prize), Poisoned Paranid (own starting mini plot and prize - my favorite), Aldran Adventurer, Goner Witness, Unholy Traitor, Teladi Trafficker, Lost Lar (the most difficult and the most insane IMO, we start with Boron TP Angel in the middle of a Xenon Core sector... Taa daa, now try to survive!), Savage Split, Anonymous Argon, Boring Boron, Pious Paranid, Nostalgic Argon, Suicidal Squid (hardcore), and at last Custom Start (IMO most hopeles, no plots are available).
And as curiosity - one scenario "Yaki" which was excluded because of bugs.
There are lots of Tutorials of Terran Conflict but hardly any on actual gameplay...and noticing that the "Teacher" has but only 10.3 hrs for last two weeks / 94 hrs on record doesn't impress me with the quality of your series....from other well knowned authors of Lets Play type of teaching....that I have seen so far.

I actually find the series from 1 to 3 ...uh...rather uneventful and kinda dull, but giving the fact that you hardly have enough hours into the game, is understandable.

I realize its your first time around on doing this, but if you try not to be "boring" and give the game a play through where many others has already done, you may have a better topic to do.

I have over 1900 hours in AP, and in TC the game just could get better if I didn't get into so many hard spots when starting as a Terran...this is the type gameplay that others may have trouble doing...including me.

I gave up after 40 something hours playing as a Terran because after venturing into unknown space, and being warned not to go there any futher would be my last trip into space.

There are great stories to be told and ventures into unknown space if you simply give it some quality action to keep the viewers interested.

Heya, thanks for the feedback! Much appreciated!

I agree I'm far from a veteran. I've started a new game of X about 3x in my life due to my fairly chaotic life (leaving for a couple of months for work, coming back having no idea what I was doing, starting again). So I myself haven't had much experience with the real advanced stuff (decline of Terran economy and advanced station building for example).
However, me not having a great many hours in the game shouldn't prevent me from trying to give new players a basic understanding of the game in order to know how to progress. I know for myself at least I found the game incredibly frustrating at the beginning without any outside help.

If you found these episodes boring/uneventful, then I'm afraid the rest won't get (much) better. It's a very methodological walkthrough/guide basically entailing a series of steps that touch upon many systems of the game, and combat will only be touched upon in the last episode.
That said, I really do appreciate the feedback. Thanks for responding. I guess this tutorial is already recorded completely, but of course that doesn't mean I can' make other, better ones at some other point in the future, taking into account feedback :)

I'm leaning towards this series for a few reasons:

1. Clear voice and accent is easy to understand
2. Reviewing latest version of game
3. 1080p
4. Going through each part of the in detail (and right from the start)

I know there's players with hundreds of hours in this game, but a tutorial for X3 games step by step with the reasons above are not very common at all on YouTube. This game is known to have a steep learning curve, a tutorial series would be great for the impatient players who left the game after 20 mins because it was too difficult and didn't make sense :P

I have to agree here, the 3 episodes I've seen are an excellent start. There's some minor stuff, like forgetting the duplex scanner in ep 3, unless you really didn't want one ;) But the fact you didn't blow all your credits on more guns and unnecessary stuff is a breath of fresh air. So all in all I'm looking forward to seeing more as well...

One thing though, please don't tell me the "free ship" you're talking about getting is one of the cheat derelicts :(

-Digger
About the duplex scanner, didn't I mention it in that episode that we didn't buy it because we'd be going for a triplex scanner soon? If not, I'll annotate it! Thanks! :) I don't have sound at the moment, so can't check the video yet.

What do you mean with 'cheat' derelicts? We'll be getting a couple of derelicts, but I'm not sure what you mean with 'cheat' derelict (unless you mean that derelicts by themselves are 'cheaty', which I would agree with). In my first episode however I do admit this start might be a bit cheesy, due to getting a couple of derelicts that you might not have found on your own. But personally I was happy with that start to explore a lot of options of the game. Afterwards I did a game of Xtended, where derelicts were removed, but then I had enough of a grasp of the game to not need them anymore.

Thanks for your comment! I realise I might have made some parts confusing, and I'm superhappy about the 'annotate' function to explain things more clearly when needed. Especially in some of the earlier episodes I'm trying to get some weapons which will only be of use in episode 13, and it might not be clear to the viewer of why we're going through all this effort to get them. So I'll be checking that once I have sound and annotate where necessary :) So whenever you see something that doesn't make sense or is not clear, please let me know and I'll try to make it better!

Ok, that explains why you didn't want it :) It's not that I don't like the derelicts, they were a lot of fun to find...the first time...but since they aren't random I think they are rather cheaty. There are plenty of ways to get good ships and quick credits without using them.

I'm still looking forward to more of your vids though, even if you use the derelicts ;)

-Digger
Even though it was my first time trying this kind of thing and I shouldn't be too perfectionistic, I already notice quite some flaws in the vids. Hope you people enjoy it nonetheless!

Once I'm back home I think I'll start a more structured tutorial series, containing short videos on very specific topics, such as station building, bartering, special command software, wings etc.

I just saw ep 6 (not yet on the playlist?), and I,m impressed. Forget what I said about the derelicts, you're using them to good effect.

There's one tip about when you first get a jump drive, you can try to barter for enough e-cells to get to a power station if you're in a hurry. Also, you're a brave flyer to turn on auto-pilot in ore belt :)

-Digger
Thanks a lot! Very glad you like it!
I've personally never done any bartering, so I'm going to look into that and release a video on it once I figured it out myself. I'm gathering topics on which to make seperate video's after these 13 'guide' episodes, that will go into detail on specific mechanics of the game. I was thinking of:

- Best buy/best sell locators
- bartering
- Station building for missions
- Station building for yourself
- GOD engine and saving the Terran Economy. (I don't know much about this yet at all though)
- In system vs out of system combat
- Wings
- Mining

Any more suggestions? I'd be very happy to hear them! I really like doing tutorials like this, as I myself learn a ton in the process as well.

Thanks again for the kind words and tips!

Honestly, the ideal tutorial for me for a new player is firstly it covers the bare basics (what you NEED to know to play). Then you slowly expand out into the bigger, more advanced things in the game. To be honest, my ideal tutorial series is one that covers + explains everything.

You might have noticed there is no tutorial series yet that covers everything, that'd be because... there's just too much to cover! However, I'd still like to see this happen, new players will need help when coming to this game, and not everyone has the patience of a monk to sit down and try work out the game for themselves :P

So you mean to make short tutorials about everything, including stuff that I covered in this guide as well?
I'd be happy to make very short tutorials on each topic (and maybe add them to the wiki if they prove helpful?) Controls, UI, trading, bartering, reputation, missions etc.
