Aperture Tag: The Paint Gun Testing Initiative is, without any doubt, a very original Portal mod, offering something you don't usually expect from Portal-based creations. The paint gun is cleverly implemented and genuinely fun to use, requiring a different way of thinking compared to traditional Portal games or mods.

The maps make interesting use of this new mechanic. If you've played Portal 2 co-op race maps, the concept may feel familiar, but now you're in direct control of the gels. Some maps do require hard thinking, which sounds great in theory, but unfortunately, the maps are the fourth weakest part of the game. They lack the true spirit of Portal and sometimes feel disconnected or nonsensical.

The story is the third weakest aspect. It feels full of holes, almost as if the developers thought "Let's make a game and worry about the plot later". I already had my doubts while watching thee trailer. I was curious enough to try it, but if you already have doubts like I had, this review will confirm them.

The voice acting is another disappointment. In Portal, Spheres speak in a very distinct way, but the voice acting here doesn't reflect that. It feels off, and the attempts at humor only make it worse. It's the second weakest part of the game and leads us to the biggest issue, our number one:

The price. Honestly, I'd pay more for other Portal mods that are free than for this one - even though I got it with an 83% discount. The quality just doesn't justify the cost. The only thing that kept me playing to the end was the hope it would get better. Spoiler alert: It didn't.

I have trouble solving the tests as intended, so I just shoot goo out of bounds and solve it that way.

Its pretty good and the game play is unique so far but the quality is alright, its not comparable to portal stories Mel, Probably get on sale

Step 0: Install Portal 2 from Steam
Step 1: Navigate to your Aperture Tag installation
Step 2: Delete the folders titled "bin" and "portal2"
Step 3: Navigate to your Portal 2 installation
Step 4: Copy its "bin" and "portal2" folders
Step 5: Navigate back to Aperture Tag
Step 6: Paste the two folders

Its really good. I get why everyones is saying "umm, the free ones are better", so just go play those too and don't blame this good game about being 5 dollars (games take time and resources, who would have guessed)

Very short, and honestly not worth the 5 bucks when Portal Revolution is Free, and like three times the length.

The worst part is there is only a couple actual test chamber, thats like in a room, with the black and white walls, but they are just ones from Portal 2, 3 and 18. A tutorial level, from the first game, followed by a reused puzzle from Portal 2 but easier cause you can bypass all of the puzzle via gel.

There are a handful of chambers you can completely skip with blue gel and air strafing. Failed premise and it really shouldn't be paid for.

I'd pay more for mods that are currently free.

VERY GOOD BUT SHORT GAME

while the idea of this game is very interesting, the execution falls very flat. many of the puzzles felt pretty boring or uninspired, especially when comparing it to portal. for the most part i was very unimpressed and felt little satisfaction when finishing most stages. truthfully, many of the levels felt like a proof-of-concept for the gel gun over a fully fleshed out idea.

another lesser, though significant, part of this game that i especially disliked was the dialogue and voice acting of the personality core. its delivery was absolutely insufferable and actively ruined my experience. every time i heard the character speak, i really just wanted to mute the game. the dialogue felt akin to low quality marvel quips, where the character tries too hard to be funny, to the point where it's downright irritating. combine this with the voice, and the result feels a pedantic nerd that does not know when to stop talking. perhaps this was the kind of character the writers were hoping to create, and if so, they did a terrible job at executing it. unpleasant characters should not detract from my experience and become a nuisance.

overall, i cannot recommend this game, especially at full price. i can see why other people liked this, but this simply wasn't for me.
