Tryshard's Base Building Tournament #1
As a long time (2000 hrs +) player of NMS I have been impressed by the creativeness of this community. As an avid base builder myself, I thought it might be fun to have a base building contest.

Of course this is purely voluntary so trolls don't need to participate, suggestions are welcome, outright nasty behavior isn't.

PLEASE VOTE by giving a Thumbs Up on the Contestants Screenshot Entry
You can vote for all your favorites, you can vote more than once.

First the rules:
It must be a new built base on the tournament planet.
Portal Address in Numbers: 3, 2, 2, 15, 8, 15, 8, 16, 9, 16, 5, 15

I have gotten suggestions that perhaps we should have a theme or design guidelines.
I don't think design guidelines would be a manageable thing, too complicated and work heavy for the judge (me).

A theme could work, so suggestions are being accepted as the rules will be in flux for the beginning of the tournament.

Our Theme is going to be to create a Resort Planet. New Raisia (sp) sort of. We need all sorts of locations, We have started with the BBQ by Prescient Stones and we need some more participants. So build your Hotels, Sports Centers, Race Tracks, etc. Multiple copies of everything would be good so there can be some variety. I know there are Base Builders playing this game who need to show off their skills, here is your chance.

As you can see this is a great planet with beautiful weather and no hostile creatures or sentinels.

When your ready to be judged by me, post a your most attractive screenshot on this post to start the evaluation. Final evaluation will be in the last week of Nov. So you will have time to improve your base. Popularity of the Screenshot by votes will be 50% of the Judging criteria.

The final 50% will the average of ? scores that are subjective.
From 0 - 100 points will be awarded for:

Originality of Design: Are the colors and patterns of building blocks used attractively and with intent and purpose. Has the builder come up with a design feature that is not commonly used. (I have visited hundreds of base during my play, and the number of box structures just plopped into place are frequent.) As an example the way I support the corners of my Launch pads with crossing triangles and stone support walls crossing (I call it the Tilly Cross Corner after my dog.) is something I have never seen in other bases. (I'm sure someone will chime in and say they see it all the time LOL)

Use of Location of Base: How does your base fit into the surrounding terrain. We all know that excessive terrain modifications do not last long in bases. So how do you use the terrain in your design. Have you built a cool cave base, or an underwater megalopolis!

Overall Attractiveness: Does your base possess the Wow Factor? When I fly to your base, is the approach view make me and others say Wow this is a nice base. Is it fun to walk around in your base or is it just a confusing mess Overcrowded with useless decorations. Are there trees and other vegetation used thoughtfully. The base size is not the point but a larger base is more fun to explore. I like to hide freebies are my bases for the explorers to find, something many base builders do and when I explore someones else's base and I find these it makes me want to look around more even though I probably have hundreds of them already in my inventory.

So three Subjective criteria 0-100 and averaged added to screenshot votes makes the Overall and Finalist winner.

The tournament will run until Nov 30, 2024 at which point I will hand out from my personal account Steam Awards for:

Best Base Award: Take my Points 4,800
Finalist Base Award: Golden Unicorn 2,400
Honorable Mention (up to 5 bases)
Most Creative Feature
Most Comfortable
How did you do that award

The criteria for judging is in development (meaning I'm still mulling them over and will be posting updates as I come up with them but they will be finalized before the start of Nov. any suggestions are welcome) I will personally visit every base for Judging in the last week of November, but I will also visit your work in progress bases as I see them pop up.

Some things I'm thinking about is a points system that starts with a base 100 points.
Points are added for meeting criteria and subtracted for missing them or doing them poorly. As the Judge my personal views will come into play (I don't like unsupported structures) I will post the scores of the winners and the next 10. (I hope)

I have built a Tournament Central Station (named Tilly's Central Station after my Dog)
it is not complete yet but it has lots of building supplies like frost wort for glass. Refiners and cooking stations, storage containers which you can retrieve supplies with out going back to your base. (but only containers 1, 2 and 5 I didn't want to build a big warehouse)

I will be building a meeting hall with hopes of having a Dec. 1st Awards ceremony that all participants can attend. And will be improving it also during the tournament.

I hope this will be a nice way to show off your building skills for all to see in one place and Planet. I also want this to be a very friendly competition so hand out complements freely to the hard working base builders.

How are you going to judge the users that drop in their "Save Load Prefabs" we see in all the expo's?
So is this a "anything goes" come build whatever you want or is there a theme like must have industry.... must be made of wood.... movie theme, etc...

If they can make it look nice and I like it, I will have no problem. It's the end result, that counts. I can imagine these type of construction would not fit very organically into the landscape. And you end up with bases that have trees growing through the middle of them,

They won't be judged favorably if unplanned stuff gets into your base. When I kill a rock when building and it later shows up due to the refresh, I edit the base around the rock.

Anything goes, just make it nice. I want to see that some thought was involved with bases that fit into their surroundings.

oooooh!

Hopefully I can figure out how to get there, this sounds like fun! (of course I have all of 600 quicksilver to my name since I only just got back into the game, for decoration buying purposes, but eh I can work with what I got.)

You need to find a Portal and you have to at least completed the Artimas storyline (Purge 16 times). That will give you access to the glyphs that you need to get there.

Yeah I haven't done the main line fully yet so I suppose I should get on that. I don't know what will happen on completion since it's been like. 6 years since I did it the first time. Either way once I find a way there :D

Nothing Major, until you reach the center of the galaxy It doesn't take that long if you concentrate on it.

I have updated the base evaluation criteria for judging.

I have spotted some base building activity!
Tryshard 8. okt. kl. 14:22
I checked out the base, it looks like a nice spot to go to dinner! One thing I noticed, when you use floor pieces to terrain modify, it only happens in your play. When I visit, the ground is already covering a major portion of your base. If you want others to see it as you do you will need to keep terrain mods to a minimum.

I saw a feature near Tilly Central Station which looked interesting for a base. It would be quite challenging to build here. You cannot fly into it even though it looks like you should be able to for a little while.

The Entrance, its behind the Observatory that is next to my base.

Is that how all those fancy bases show up by the first week? I thought they had pre-official start access or spent multiple days after the expedition working on it.

I went back during the day and have to revise my comments. This builder is using the terrain and grassy feature as the floor. It is quite clever and looks nice during the day.

It took less than eight hours to build the Central Station base.
