Start from your library if you already have steam vr installed it will give you the option to start in vr

The desktop shortcut seems to just start it in normal mode

If SteamVR is already open it will say "Play in VR" when you click the play button.

Thanks for the help, but still struggling
The best I managed is nms on a virtual 2D desktop in the rift. Not 3D
Er... do I need steam vr installed ?

Right click on the game in your Library and select the play in VR option.

To make it clearer for others who don't find it immediately: You need to install SteamVR (not [Main]) from the Steam store. It's a 2GB download.

Yes, you need Steam VR.

I usually start by opening Oculus and going from there. Steam VR can open Oculus automatically, but it seems less buggy to start Oculus first and close it last. You can't run Steam VR without Oculus.

No Man's Sky will show up in the Oculus library. I'm not sure if you need to start it once manually or if Oculus will search for it, it's been awhile since I've done that. If you click on it, Steam VR will start up automatically and then NMS. It does take awhile to load in. Or you can click Steam VR, and then either select NMS from the home area, or the left menu button will open the Steam VR menu and you can start it from there if you decide not to use the home area.
