Reviewing 2 years after playing the game since I didn't finish the DLCs.
Doesn't run on modern windows at all, changes resolution super low, ctrl+alt+del doesn't fix it.
No issues running on Linux but this is unacceptable...

The Evil Within was certainly a pleasant surprise to play, it's like Resident Evil and Silent Hill made a baby. I enjoyed the story, gameplay is fun too, though, a bit rough around the edges. I'd say the only downsides are how unoptimized the game is for pc and the "black bars" on the screen. Still, great game!

A truly enjoyable game. Third person shooter with decent stealth mechanics for saving ammunition, or surviving at all on the highest difficulty.

The horror elements are well made and environmental storytelling is superb. Take the time to look around each area after killing the enemies. You will find all kinds of symbols on walls, hidden corpses, but most importantly..... environmental kill zones. Hanging lanterns, oil barrels, or oddly placed corpses are all used to stun and burn both normal enemies and even bosses.

Tried it when it first came out, and again now. The bugginess with the port makes it almost unplayable to begin with, and the intro sequence where you're sneaking around is the most obnoxious, poorly programmed stealth section in a game that's not a stealth game I've ever played.

This game is a jumble of questionable design choices. So much talent and effort put into the wrong places.

La verdad que no entiendo como juego puede tener los peores 40 minutos iniciales en todos los videojuegos , y despues ser uno de los mejores juegos que jugo y el mejor survival horror que jugue sin duda alguna , alta jugabilidad , historia un toque embolante pero bueno , buen terror y re entretenido , lo otro malo es que tiene unos lindos bugs y un rendimiento bastante dudoso en varias ocasiones , pero fuera de eso es un juegazo . yo le daria un 9,25/10

I like the dark twisted surrealism even if the story doesn't make much sense. Fun combat, spooky exploration, and on the whole, I think this game is underrated. It's unfortunate Shinji Mikami is moving away from the genre, his talent is invaluable.

Playing for the first time in Sept 2024 - still a masterpiece. Only on Chapter 4 and already can't recommend this game highly enough - do yourself a favor and play it if survival horror is your genre. This game is on par with the newly released Resident Evil 4 Remake, if not better. Graphics still hold up surprisingly well.
