What Are Mechanics You Like and Dislike?
Hey everyone,

I'm thinking about diving into Lords of the Fallen and would love to get some insights from those who have played it. Given my mixed experiences with similar games, I'm curious to know what mechanics you liked and disliked about it.

To provide some context, I had a rough go with the 2014 version, finding it repetitive with a lot of backtracking that turned me off. On the other hand, I quite enjoyed The Surge 2 despite feeling it dragged on a bit towards the end. One of my all-time favorites is Dark Souls 3, though I have some reservations about Elden Ring due to its exploration and upgrade system.

So, if you've played Lords of the Fallen, how does it fare in terms of exploration, combat mechanics, and overall game length? Does it strike a balance that's enjoyable without becoming too repetitive or overwhelming? Any comparisons to other games in the genre would be really helpful too.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

This is the forum for the 2014 game, I'm assuming you mean the "sequel"?

LOTF2 is much better than the 1st one in pretty much every regard. And if you enjoyed DS3, you should love it.

It's kinda like a Dark Souls 4.5 or close. Especially now, when it's all patched up, because at release it ran like garbage. It's beautiful, exploration is fun, it never feels unfairly difficult, and you can summon other players to help you without problems in continuous co-op.

There's this "alternate universe" mechanic that makes traversal through zones much more interesting. Basically every map has its "shadow twin" which gives you a lot of fun and tense stuff to do.

You get obscene amounts of armors and weapons and spells to use, and there's a large variety among them.

PvP is fun, and you can come up with some seriously broken builds to punish fools.

Personally, I love it. I think it's one of the best games of that type. It's very cheap, so worth your money. But it's also for free on Game Pass.

Thank you, this was incredibly informative! There's a strong chance I'm going to buy this based on your post alone. I'm going to re-post in the right forum, but all of your details very promising. One complaint I've heard is that the enemy variety is pretty low. Did you happen to feel like this was an issue to you? I thought the bosses from the trailers looked particularly good, but I also recognize trailers SHOULD look good haha.
