why do killed monsters reappear upon reentering rooms?

Because you touch yourself at night.

You didn't play these kinds of games on the NES, did you? This game is deliberately old-school.

I don't agree with the design choice, it breaks the immersion for me.

The immersion of what? Playing an 8-bit-style game?

Why don't you start a new thread whining about how you don't like the game because your character doesn't autoatically regenerate his health?

Are you always so tolerant with people who don't happen to agree with your opinion?

I doubt the game is meant to be immersive. Most NES an SNES era games were "hard" and enemies re appeared in metroidvania style games like well Metroid and Castlevania. No one would play a game for the challange if enemies you killed stayed dead forever.

So, it's not the side scrolling? Not the retro graphics? Not the constant dying... It's the respawning enemies that break immersion for you huh?

Obvious troll is obvious.

Respawning enemies make it easy to grind for coins, at least. Though so far I've only found one thing to purchase, the "wrong" (long) sword...

In old school NES games, monsters would respawn on the same screen as you scrolled right. If you went to the right, then went back, they'd be back too. I miss those days.
