While in crab mode during my second visit to Main Street in Hardcore mode, I got hit by one of the starfish enemies while underwater but it didn't stick to me, but it does give me the restricted jump height. Running into the same starfish again doesn't stick it to me, it just keeps moving. I managed to get rid of all the other starfish and they all stuck to me normally.
