We are thrilled to bring you yet another major update, packed with substantial performance and playability improvements. This time around, we focused on rewriting the very foundation of our game engine to make these big improvements possible – and we hope you’ll enjoy the results as much as we have.

Performance was one of the most common player concerns, and we’ve addressed it at the core. You can expect to see an average increase of +30 FPS, especially on the world map. With V-Sync on, almost everyone should now be able to play the game at a perfectly smooth 60 FPS.

We’ve also focused on greatly improving world map playability, spending countless hours getting rid of all the stutters and freezes, and completely redesigning army and town interactions and controls - no more selection or tasking lag, or being unable to issue a command.

This update also finalizes cannons – they are now a joy to use as you reduce castles to rubble.

This update brings dozens of other fixes and enhancements, as well as the last of the known bug fixes and plenty of balancing for the mid and late game. Be sure to check out the full patch notes for all the details.

With that said, let’s take a look at what our 9th update (game version 0.43) has in store:

• RTS Performance and Stability
  - Significant framerate improvements in hamlet and field battles, averaging a +20 FPS boost.
  - Even greater performance gains in large towns, with an average increase of +30 FPS.
  - RTS mode framerate now consistently meets performance benchmarks.
  - Resolved the (hopefully final) loading screen crash issue.
  - AA Sample no longer contributes to visual lag and is now set to x8 by default.
  - Reworked water settings – lower settings now include full reflections and look significantly better.
  - Improved performance when displaying multiple cavalry units.
  
  
• Performance - World Map
  - Incredible +40 FPS boost on the world map.
  - Fixed all random lag spikes during world map gameplay.
  - Major lag spike at the end of the month is now resolved.
  - World map cinematics are much smoother with stabilized camera movement.
  
  
• World Map - Unit Controls
  - Completely redesigned how units are selected and tasked on the world map.
  - Fixed all issues with army and town selection.
  - Resolved the bug where armies would unselect or select after being unselected.
  - Fixed interaction bugs between towns and armies.
  - Improved the selection of units near each other, avoiding incorrect unit selection.
  - Enhanced selecting and tasking armies on cities for attack actions.
  
  
• World Map Improvements
  - Completed a major world map update – all towns and hamlets now display summer walls in regions unaffected by winter.
  - Corrected various hamlets missing desert or winter settings.
  - Redesigned the visual appearance of Spain during winter.
  - Fixed winter shoreline rocks on the world map.
  - Resolved snow appearance issues when loading hamlets during winter.
  - World map now fades in during load, fixing hamlets appearing in summer during winter.
  - Strengthened snow visibility during winter.
  - Improved hamlet visuals – more houses and better palisade walls.
  - Smoother transitions between seasons, especially from fall to winter and winter to spring.
  - Fixed birds freezing on the world map.
  - Horse carts and ships now travel across the world map much more smoothly.
  - Armies on the world map now play marching animations based on game speed.
  - Improved world map banners – they now clearly show whether cities are at war or peace with the player, along with enhanced shield and town strength visuals.
  - Removed "out of range" messages on the world map.
  - Season and year announcements are now much clearer, especially during season changes.
  - Adjusting game speed on the world map now correctly changes how fast months pass (from 20 seconds on fastest to several minutes on slowest).
  - Brighter visuals during the summer season on the world map.
  
  
• Large Town Improvements
  - Completely redesigned environmental effects (fog, dust, etc.) in large towns.
  - Fixed issues causing large towns to appear overly grey and foggy.
  - Reworked rain effects in RTS mode – rain is now lighter and allows better visibility.
  
  
• Cannons Finalized
  - Fixed cannons malfunctioning after the last major update.
  - Cannons no longer become immovable while reloading.
  - Moving cannons during reload interrupts the process, reloading will resume later.
  - Reduced cannon range and view.
  - Cannonballs now reliably reach distant targets instead of falling short.
  
  
• Balancing
  - Reduced income from Mills and Sawmills on the world map.
  - Increased the cost of sending insults via the world map menu.
  - Disabled the Arrow Volley ability.
  - All bow and crossbow units now have access to Fire Arrows.
  - All ranged infantry units now feature a Hold Fire button.
  - Removed the Attack Ground ability from wall-mounted siege weapons.
  - Military units recruited from the Town Hall are now significantly cheaper.
  - Looting and razing towns now provides substantially more silver based on the town or hamlet's level.
  - Resolved issue where players were incorrectly awarded 40 population.
  - Fixed a bug causing large city attack population limits to be 30 instead of 20.
  - Herbalist and Hospital buildings now properly heal units during combat, with healing sign displayed.
  - Fixed healing exploit in RTS mode.
  - AI upgrades towns and hamlets at a slower rate over the years.
  - In combat, AI will now charge the player, even when heavily outnumbered, speeding up battles.
  - Capture the Flag victory conditions no longer count retreated units, making flag capture easier.
  - Units that retreat now remain retreated longer, unlikely to rejoin the same battle.
  - Research improving city happiness is now less effective, making happiness harder to balance.
  
  
• Other
  - Improved dialogue window for declaring war or peace.
  - Fixed tutorial prompts not advancing to Skirmish mode.
  - Gate Gears are now easier to target during sieges.
  - Enhanced cinematics for entering towns and battles, especially for large towns.
  - Hobelar unit models now feature larger masks, making it easier to identify them as player units.
  - Added more birds in RTS mode, which now look much better.
  - Fixed RTS bird animation freezes.
  - Adjusted position of Events window on the world map.
  - Fixed mounted units being able to scale walls.
  - Improved Boiling Oil visuals.
  - Enhanced gunpowder unit firing effects.
  - Updated descriptions for Herbalist and Hospital buildings.
  - Techs that can't currently be afforded are now clearly marked.
  - Polished layout of the controls menu in options.

We’re back with another major update for RKW – and this time, we have a bit of a theme, as our focus was on reworking everything related to castles, sieges, and gunpowder to get it just right. There’s tons of brand-new art, visual improvements, completely reworked features, and some massive changes to gameplay.

Some highlights: today’s update includes a complete overhaul of how large cities are fortified, with all large towns now starting with stone walls. These stone walls have been redesigned with all-new Renaissance-era art, making large towns truly look magnificent. You’ll also get all-new and reworked siege weapons and cannons to take these stone walls apart (cannons can absolutely devastate towns now).

This is a true game-changer for how you approach defending and attacking these settlements, adding a lot of historical realism.

We’ve also gone back to the drawing board with our gunpowder units, completely redesigning their look and feel.

Of course, we didn’t stop there. There’s a host of art updates, balancing changes, performance improvements, and important bug fixes across the board.

We're excited to bring you another major update, and this one introduces a long-awaited feature – the ability to control multiple armies! This game-changing addition has been a top request from our community across all Kingdom Wars games. Now, you can control multiple armies simultaneously, combining resources, buildings and citizens, which opens up deeper strategies in every battle scenario.

Along with multi-army control, this update includes significant AI improvements, especially in large town sieges and defenses, as well as dozens of other improvements and fixes. We’ve also added a host of balancing adjustments and quality-of-life updates based on feedback from players on our Steam Forums and Discord[discord.gg].

This marks another milestone in our weekly update schedule, and we’ll keep delivering more features and improvements. With that said, let’s take a look at today’s major update #7 (game version 0.41) and the most important changes:

• In all types of battles - sieges, defending, field - the player can now control multiple armies
  
• With multiple armies, citizens and resources are combined
  
• Newly recruited units are added to the primary army/city - and once full, to the secondary army
  
• When controlling a 2nd army - the spawn location can be used to construct additional temporary buildings

• AI is more efficient in large town sieges
  
• Defending RTS AI now positions a lot more units on walls
  
• AI now positions gunpowder units on walls
  
• AI is now much better at defending large towns
  
• AI has been adjusted to handle the player controlling multiple armies
  
• AI is a lot more aggressive in certain siege situations

• Added transfer units button to armies - making it easier to select a city or army to transfer units to

After a series of major updates earlier in August, we took a brief step back polish some of the new major additions and improvements. And so today, we're releasing a smaller update, version 0.40, which includes a number of fixes and improvements across the board.

Some highlights include significant enhancements to lighting and graphics, particularly with a new setting for darker monitors. NOTE: for optimal visuals - current players should open the Options menu, and make sure the V-Sync is On, and Extra Bloom is Off. [/b]We've also reworked the early game to make it more accessible for new players.

With that said, let’s take a look at what our sixth update (v0.40) has in store:

• Improvements to RTS game light and fog effect

Great news – today we’ve hit our first Early Access development milestone, and we have an absolute monster of an update for you that improves every area of the game. From stability, performance, AI, and pathfinding to graphics, new features, new levels, and so much more. This update also completely re-balances the game – it now gets challenging real fast.

The game is in a pretty good place now, so we can start focusing on updating art assets and adding new features. Later next week, we'll share our road-map for the entire Early Access development cycle and release another large update introducing controlling multiple armies at one and adding the quality-of-life improvements requested by our players on our Steam Forums and Discord[discord.gg].

With that said, let's take a closer look at what this major update #5 (game version 0.9) brings to the table. Please note that we are only listing the larger changes here:

• Cut visual memory use by 300MBs, bringing huge performance and stability improvements
  
• Fixed the vast majority of random crashes when switching between levels
  
• Lag spikes from tasking a lot of units are practically eliminated
  
• Lag from selecting a lot of battalions at once reduced by 50%
  
• Fixed issues with some video cards working at the highest performance

• Fixed long-standing issues with battalions forming up great distances apart
  
• Units spawning on walls are positioned properly now

Brian and I have been working non-stop since launch to fix everything, and we're excited to share today's update with you. This third update includes a lot of polish, improvements, new features, and the final bug fixes.

With that in mind, let's dive into what our update #3 (game version 0.37) has to offer. Please note that we're only highlighting the major changes here:

• Major improvement to visual performance on the world map
  
• First work on updating all of the units - Swordsman model and props updated
  
• Reworked animations for world map armies
  
• World map army units no longer slide but properly walk
  
• Demanding towns count towards city capture victories
  
• Reworked Help window interface and size
  
• Help windows are now a lot easier to use and read
  
• Fixed skirmish achievement "Battle Won, War Next"
  
• Created new UI windows for when war is declared on a player by an AI Kingdom
  
• Created new UI window for when peace is signed with an AI Kingdom
  
• Fixed major issue where AI would not properly use gunpowder units and task them in melee
  
• Various improvements to how AI tasks units during battles
  
• Reworked Not Enough Resources dialogue - it now shows the amount of missing resources
  
• Fixed various bugs with the Not Enough Resources pop-up
  
• Disabled placing Call To Arms during Tutorial/Prologue

Firstly, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude for your incredible support during our Early Access launch week! We have to admit, the launch didn’t go as smoothly as we’d hoped...

Despite extensive testing by our publisher's QA department, ourselves, and our dedicated volunteers, a few bugs managed to sneak through and affected some players. Luckily, only a small percentage of players were affected by most of these bugs—but still—please accept our sincere apologies. We really wanted to launch a perfect Early Access build.

Your feedback on our Discord[discord.gg] and Steam Community Discussions has been invaluable. It helped us identify and address all the remaining issues and areas needing improvement.

Brian and I have been working tirelessly since launch, determined to fix everything, and we’re happy to present today’s major update. This update also includes some features that didn’t make it into the EA launch build, some new art and more.

Now... lets take a look at what exactly today`s update #2 (game version 0.36) has to offer. I`m only listing the bigger changes here:

• Fixed major issue with enemy AI not retreating when attacking player towns or hamlets.
  
• Fixed major issue with victory conditions sometimes not working – capture flag/kill most units.
  
• Expanded tutorial – added Building Town tutorial and another World Map tutorial.
  
• New unit portraits for Falconet, Culverin, and Cannon.
  
• Falconet, Culverin, and Cannon now have new art.
  
• Resolved the last of the rare game-breaking issues related to being unable to progress.
  
• Fixed issue with saving and loading campaigns sometimes loading earlier versions.
  
• Fixed issue with loading campaigns sometimes loading the wrong campaign.
  
• Fixed all issues with campaign saves not saving some armies.
  
• Fixed renaming city issues for towns.
  
• Fixed all issues with the auto-save campaign feature.
  
• Fixed issues affecting some monitors – unable to alt-tab and then return to the game.
  
• Fixed various startup issues with resolution and windowed mode.
  
• Fixed issue with players being unable to use Print Screen on some systems.
  
• Fixed issue with world map AI not attacking the player in Sandbox mode.
  
• Fixed issue with new campaigns where players would sometimes be unable to use auto-resolve.
  
• Rebalanced hamlet economy with cheaper units and buildings, making it easier.
  
• Corrected heraldry for Holy Roman Empire and France.
  
• Corrected about a dozen various historical inaccuracies as reported by our players – more fixes to come.

First and foremost, we want to extend a massive thank you to all of you for your incredible support during our Early Access launch!

Your feedback has been invaluable on our Discord[discord.gg] and Steam Community Discussions, and we’re committed to making this game the best it can be with your help.

Players have reported some key issues that we wanted to address as soon as possible, so we have applied a day-one hotfix:

• Tutorial Bug Fixed: Resolved the issue where the tutorial would prematurely end after returning from capturing the first hamlet and paying the king silver. The tutorial now continues as intended, guiding you through building up the hamlet and includes one final tutorial segment upon returning to the world map.
  
• Victory Flag Capture Issue Fixed: Addressed the problem where players were unable to capture the victory flag when attacking hamlets or cities (if the town hall was destroyed with 1 HP remaining, it would trigger this issue). We’ve made the town hall almost impossible to destroy to prevent this from happening.
  
• Attack Button Greyed Out Fixed: Fixed an issue where, after completing the tutorial and starting a new campaign, or loading into a half-finished tutorial campaign, the Attack button would be greyed out when attempting to attack a town or army.
