I disabled Screamers completely and love the game so much more now.
I gotta admit I'm over 300 hours on my current play through and screamers were really starting to weigh on me. They were spawning so much that it literally was like constant Shrieking Banshees non-stop. It didn't matter what I did, Removing all torches, Closing Doors hardly ever, Never cooking, or smelting etc.. It was just constant heavy breathing Snaggle-Toothed HAGS at my door.

I was literally sneaking through my base like I was living in someone elses attic, and the only time I wasn't sneaking was if they weren't home so I could come down and take a monster deuce and not flush it, but I digress.

Point is the games own mechanic for generating spawns and creating a feeling of tension, was actually making me not want to play the game anymore because of all the never ending shrieking and beating on my steel doors.

So I found a mod that reduced Heat map From both heat sources and sounds, and it promised a 50% reduction in Neon Green Karens with Jeremy Clarkson Teeth. But this was not enough for me.. So I edited the mod to now make it so that Nothing Produces a HEATMAP increase at all ever.. and low and behold......PERFECTION.

My world is now somewhat enjoyable. ( See: "Less Ear Gratingly Annoying")

However don't think its all fun and games now. Here's my World settings:

Difficulty= insane
All runners All the time

Server Config: Max Spawned Zombies =
<property name="MaxSpawnedZombies" value="672" />

(The default is 64 BTW I believe)

And I play with another mod that Increases Spawns and Random Horde Sizes by 16X, except that my own spawn settings are far from Default..see below>

For context Here's the Default Pine Forest Spawns:

<!-- *** BIOME_SPAWNING -->

<!-- *** PINE_FOREST_SPAWNS -->
<biome name="pine_forest">
<spawn maxcount="1" respawndelay="2.9" time="Day" entitygroup="ZombiesAll" notags="commercial,industrial,downtown" />
<spawn maxcount="1" respawndelay="3.3" time="Night" entitygroup="ZombiesNight" notags="commercial,industrial,downtown" />

<spawn maxcount="2" respawndelay="0.3" time="Day" entitygroup="ZombiesAll" tags="commercial,industrial" notags="downtown" />
<spawn maxcount="3" respawndelay="0.15" time="Night" entitygroup="ZombiesNight" tags="commercial,industrial" notags="downtown" />

<spawn maxcount="3" respawndelay="0.3" time="Day" entitygroup="ZombiesForestDowntown" tags="downtown" />
<spawn maxcount="3" respawndelay="0.1" time="Night" entitygroup="ZombiesForestDowntownNight" tags="downtown" />

<spawn maxcount="2" respawndelay="1" time="Any" entitygroup="WildGameForest" spawnDeadChance="0" />
<spawn maxcount="1" respawndelay="1" time="Night" entitygroup="WildGameForestNight" spawnDeadChance="0" />
<spawn maxcount="1" respawndelay="3.2" time="Night" entitygroup="EnemyAnimalsForest" spawnDeadChance="0" />
</biome>

Here's my Settings:

<!-- *** PINE_FOREST_SPAWNS -->
<biome name="pine_forest">
<spawn maxcount="12" respawndelay="2.9" time="Day" entitygroup="ZombiesAll" notags="commercial,industrial,downtown" />
<spawn maxcount="12" respawndelay="3.3" time="Night" entitygroup="ZombiesNight" notags="commercial,industrial,downtown" />

<spawn maxcount="12" respawndelay="0.3" time="Day" entitygroup="ZombiesAll" tags="commercial,industrial" notags="downtown" />
<spawn maxcount="12" respawndelay="0.15" time="Night" entitygroup="ZombiesNight" tags="commercial,industrial" notags="downtown" />

<spawn maxcount="12" respawndelay="0.3" time="Day" entitygroup="ZombiesForestDowntown" tags="downtown" />
<spawn maxcount="12" respawndelay="0.1" time="Night" entitygroup="ZombiesForestDowntownNight" tags="downtown" />

<spawn maxcount="8" respawndelay="1" time="Any" entitygroup="WildGameForest" spawnDeadChance="0" />
<spawn maxcount="8" respawndelay="1" time="Night" entitygroup="WildGameForestNight" spawnDeadChance="0" />
<spawn maxcount="0" respawndelay="3.2" time="Night" entitygroup="EnemyAnimalsForest" spawnDeadChance="0" />

You'll also notice I disable all "Enemy Animals" from Spawning... because I want to kill Human Zombies... not Zombie Dogs, Wolves, Dire Wolves, or Zombie Bears. I think Zombie animals is..... uninteresting.

Anyways wanted to mention this in case anyone out there is tired of Screamers after 300+ hours like I am. THERE IS HOPE.:spacemarineskull:

Great to hear you are having a blast without the Screamers. This is great and all but for me and other players it needs to be in game with out mods. I have also stressed that I like the Screamers and they have just been way out of balance. I hope they change this but until then I'm not playing this game.
thestile 30 de out. às 17:57
Yeah I wouldn't miss them either, just because they sound annoying.

I'm fine with hordes spawning and difficulty but the screamers can be irritating. There's constant spawning in the mod overhaul I'm playing (of regular zombies) but the screamers are at a minimum.

But when the screamer does call hordes... It's like 50+ Z's

I altered the heatmap stuff and biome spawns etc. as well, on my own - workstations are zero but sounds still generate some "heat" (just a lot less). And yes it's nice. :dssmile:

Modding - on your own or using someone else's creations - is the only reason I still play/return to this game periodically, since it means I can turn the game into whatever sandbox playstyles I feel like at any given moment.

Main reason I still do it manually is I'm a control freak and most mods don't do exactly what I want, or change too many things I don't want etc. And/or because I change things so constantly (like, multiple times per day occasionally) testing stuff or for map generations or whatever....I've tried figuring out "modlets" but eh...still just easier/more memorable to do it line by line, for me.

The barren landscape is already boring enough, I like the screamers, they lively up the area now and again and bring XP and loot to me.

I completely agree.

Without screamers, the scarcity of random zombies outside get too boring for me.

yeah aside from the 4 zombies that spawn around you at nightfall, you can go without seeing a zombie for quite some time in this game if you turn off screamers
xDDD...

There's a tip (no exploit, no cheat) to avoid fight vs screamer & to don't come to destroy where you live on your base until you know/understand good the mechanic of screamer...

If not, well, Youtube is your friends, search on it even if it's for old version... It's always +/- the same tip since devs add screamers in game since from +/-a13 even since a10 if I remember well...

I think the screamers are quite funny and add to the game - especially if they bring in a massive horde during a mission!

Just ran into the one at Bell Lake for the first time and thought that was perfect.

You apparently stopped reading my post after the title I'm guessing. (Don't worry this is quite common these days as most people have the attention span of a GNAT.):steambored:

I did go on to say that I altered the game to be completely swamped with Zombies, by using additional Mods that multiply the number if spawned Zombies and Hordes by 16x and manually edited the server config file to permit up to 672 zombies spawned at a time. Plus I also edited the biome spawn configs to be 3-4 times higher than the default amount spawned per biome type.

Meaning I am constantly surrounded by and being attacked by Zombies... just not Screamers.

This allows me to do things like take 3 steps without crouching, or having to sound insulate a room with fifteen mattresses before I fart for fear of the dreaded Snaggle Tooth Karen at my door.

You'd think with a name like Mithrandir....you might have "READ" a post before agreeing with another person who didn't read the post either.

So for you, as was for them>

No, I read all of your discussion and stand by my comment, but assume away.

Screamers are easy to deal with, me personally I let them scream to bring hordes in, but they are easy to kill without them screaming.

The responses in this thread (yours included) is a perfect example of why I play single player only. :)

Once again for the kids in the back....

Why are you getting so defensive? you feel the need to tell the world you don't like screamers in a 7 days to die discussion page, an in game feature that you removed, people say they prefer them in and why and you get defensive?

Strange..
