Popular Question: Where is Second Chapter (also known as SC)??

Short answer: Soon.

Long answer: XSEED is working on it now. It is expected to show up on Steam and PSN at the end of 2014, possibly early 2015. It's too early to be able to give a date now.

Bonus Question: What about 3rd??

Let's not jump the gun yet. Let's see how SC does first, then maybe XSEED will work on 3rd. :D

EDIT: Since it apparently has to be clarified, by "Early 2015" I mean sometime during the first half of the year. I don't have any other information, nor does XSEED. As I said in my long answer, it's too early to give a date right now.

Wow, this is an actual update, rather than the edit I made before.

The editing process for SC's script has been confirmed as completed, according to Jess (the editor of FC's script) on twitter:

This brings us one (giant) step closer to the game's release. I'll update with more information as it comes out.

Oops. I forgot that, as the author of this thread, I can keep updating it, even without my mod/dev status on here. Many apologies for that!

Sara made the following comment regarding the game's status in a recent quote in this thread. I'll go ahead and quote it here so people can see it quickly.

I can't really say anything official, but I'm quite sure the game will be out before the year is over.

Here are some updates from Tom on the XSEED Forums[forum.marvelous-usa.com] on 9/14:

We're releasing on PC and PSP simultaneously (though the PSP version will be digital-only). And that's not a "maybe" situation -- we have our product code for PSP already, our ESRB rating, and are even in the early stages of master testing! It's definitely coming out for PSP -- you can count on it.

I'm going to stop the other rumor that Cold Steel is before SC, as well, since Tom commented on it[forum.marvelous-usa.com] on 9/11 as well:

Dude, SC is totally coming before Cold Steel. I even double-checked how the two releases are progressing at work today, and we're still 100% on track to release SC well before Cold Steel.

XSEED announced last Friday that Second Chapter is being released tomorrow! Happy day! You can find it by searching for it on Steam now, too.

Just finished the game. What a great journey it has been!

Now I have to wait :C Well when SC comes out it'll give me a reason to go through the game again, 100% it leisurely with my carried over stuff and get that monster book. Looking forward to it^^

I wonder how diffrent FC and SC will be, especially as SC is done in collaboration by Carpe Fulgar (people who did recettear)

I can't wait for Trails in the Sky: Soon Chapter.

I also have high hopes for XSEED's pending copyright on the word Soon. Can't wait to see what comes out of that ;D

(for real though awesome job guys I'm eagerly anticipating SC and hopefully (Aidios/Eidos willing) the rest of the series from there)

Oh boy.. So even if XSeed STARTS working on the third chapter AFTER the SC has proved itself in terms of sales, it still will be late 2016/early 2017 at the very, very earliest.

Not really in the position to complain here of course, but dayum that's far away :o

Well, the good thing is that the 3rd actually has a smaller script than SC does, though larger than FC since it does have 8 chapters and a very short prologue. Also because of the premise and setting of the game there isn't going to be as much ability to interact with NPCs. However, the side stuff is a lot more in depth since it is typically flashback scenes where you can actually interact with things in the flashback.
