stuck at Fungal forest: game starting to suck
I am quite new to this game and have some questions. I am stuck in the fungal forest and don't know how to win the level. I found a youtube video but when I copy the strategy, I fail. After reading the discussion here, I read that the developers changed things and make it harder to win.
That actually sucks, because imho this game is for me a distraction, a causal game to play, just for half an hour and then move on with other stuff.
In the beginning I was thinking about buying another kingdom rush game. But with this experience I won't.
My questions:
- Is there a tutorial to get through the fungal forest?
- Is this normal, that I don't get points for killing the small green spiders, which are coming out of the eggs of the big green fat ones? They are quite annoying and you don't get rewarded for killing them. I think that's not okay.
- What is the best way to kill a lt of enemies like in the forest. My best idea is the Tesla tower but that is very expensive and takes ages to level up.

I can't offer too much advice. I finished the game long before that update and haven't played much since then. I just took a few shots at Fungal Forest, out of curiosity, and it didn't end well.

I guess it's normal to not get anything for the small spiders. I really don't know (it's been a looong time :happymeat:).

Teslas can be very effective, if you have the time/gold to get them. But you'll need something else to handle the enemies until you can get the tesla(s), and, in this case, I can't tell you what that might be.

You have a few options:

If you don't already have all of the upgrades (for the meteor, reinforcements, etc.), you could do the Heroic and/or Iron modes on some earlier maps to get more stars. Having all of the upgrades didn't help me, but it might help you. :lunar2020playfuldog:

You could try different heroes. I was using Elora Wintersong (she was just my go-to for most maps), but there may be better choices for that map.

If you haven't already, you could lower the difficulty (my attempts just now were on Normal).

Last, but not least, they originally kept the old version of the game here on Steam. As far as I know, it's still available. Right-click on the game in Steam, select Properties and the Betas tab, and see if there is a "legacy" option (as I recall, that's what they called it). Selecting that will presumably replace the newer version with that old one (as opposed to having both versions installed at the same time).

Yes, this is intended behaviour; otherwise you could cheat and block the large spiders with a series of barracks while they continue making small spiders that you could continue to kill to farm gold and make the rest of the stage far too easy.

For Fungal Forest you can either use Ignus because he kills all the small enemies very quickly and heals himself constantly, or you can use Gerald LIghtseeker to make the boss a non-issue(he can just block Myconid until it dies).

The Tainted Treants have high armour, so it helps to get a few Sorcerer Mage towers to destroy their armour. I also find it useful to have one or two Rangers Hideouts placed in strategic places with the Wrath of the Forest upgrade, because that freezes the enemies in place to both slow them down and to stop them from damaging your units for a while.

As for artillery, both can work, but that is not the main priority; the main priority is to stop your soldiers from dying. I don't know if you know this, but whenever one of your units dies, it will spawn a Husk from one of the poison pools, and this is what will eventually overwhelm your blockers(also, when an Earth Elemental from the Sorcerer Mage dies, it will spawn a Swamp Thing).

Good catch. I thought about that, but then for some reason I was thinking that it only happened on Rotten Forest, not Fungal Forest.

As you said, if you're using any "troops" (regular or elemental), you need to really focus on keeping them alive, or you're just creating more enemies for yourself.

I basically just spammed sorcerer towers for this level. Spiders won't lay eggs if you melee them, so put your hero + reinforcements at the beginning of the left lane whenever there's a spider wave. Then later on you'll have enough towers to completely ignore them.

I have all the levelscompleted and decided to erase my save and start all over again. Came to this discussion forum just because of this. I'm pretty sure they changed things. Previously it was a well built challenge but now it sucks. Some levels feel impossible to solve. Is no good idea to change something that worked well.

Yeah, they obviously changed some things, but I've never seen anything from them about it. Their very brief notes in the Beta section don't mention anything like that. For all I know, it wasn't even intentional (although if it wasn't, they hopefully would have reversed those changes).

As mentioned in my earlier post, there is the "legacy" option if you want to just go back to the old version.

Yes, some things in the engine definitely changed a few years ago compared to when the game first launched on Steam. Either the iron or heroic challenge, can't remember which, for Nightfang Swale is another one that I never even thought twice about in my original playthrough and then when I played it again I was stuck on it for hours because the Lycans now run at twice the speed. All the levels are still possible though, you just have to try a bit harder to figure out the best strategy. Or not play on the highest difficulty.
Thank you all for your answers. I'm still stuck at the fungal forest. These mushrooms are really evil. I will get some day ... maybe ... :-) It's a shame that the game has become harder over the time.

If it gets too frustrating/annoying, you can use the "legacy" option that I mentioned to switch to the old version. I'm guessing that you would have to start over, but it might be worth it.
