0.4.0 Development Update 5

All of the recent development work has been focused on some of the combat scenes that you might encounter during this update. Based on some of your choices, past and present, you will have a number of possibly violent interactions. I have been working on posing and rendering these scenes, which are a little more involved than the standard dialogue images. Using a combination of action images and narration I am hoping to create fight scenes similar to the one you previously had in the tavern. Like the tavern fight, there is at least 1 combat that you can lose which will change the direction of the story for your playthrough.

A good portion of the action this update will take place at Castle Helmsworth, where you plan to rescue Branson's remaining family members. There will be a few different paths for these scenes depending on who is with you and what choices you make. I have been working on rendering out all the images to cover any of the different outcomes, starting with you meeting and rescuing Caleb's captives.

A big milestone I discovered when I was running some linting on my code was that the script for the game has grown to over 100,000 words of dialogue. This is just the story text that has been added to the game files. I still have a large amount of the dialogue and story text for this update that still need to be added to the game files. With myself and my family travelling for the upcoming holidays I plan to finalize the story dialogue and game script since I just have my laptop with me while I am on the go. Once I am back home after the holidays it will be back to cranking out as many renders as I can for the upcoming steam release.

This will probably be the last development update I do until the official release on Steam. If you have played the demo, that consisted of the initial release and the 2nd content release. The Steam release will contain the full game up through the 4th release along with UI updates, new image and replay galleries, a new journal system and a host of smaller quality of life improvements.

0.4.0 Development Update 4

I have been busy working on many different areas of the game to get it ready for the Steam Launch with the next update. Much of the recent development work has centered around Castle Helmsworth. Building the environments, various characters, posing scenes and rendering. These scenes will provide a climatic end to the next release as you will be hopefully rescuing Branson’s family that is being held captive.

Below is an image of the full environment for the lower level of the castle which contains the storerooms, holding cells, a large, vaulted room that serves as the guard barracks and then stairways up the next level.

In the previous release 0.3.1 if you avoided the encounter while on the road to Castle Helmsworth on either Damerek or Branson’s path you would instead find a place to set up camp for the night that evening. I have been working on finishing all the needed renders for those scenes and ensuring that events that might occur during the campsite scene are considered for the next release during certain dialogue and story events.

I am working with a few translators to help expand the story from just English. Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese will be added as languages to select when playing the game. While the script is being translated by others, I have been working on redoing all the image buttons that are used for the main menu and new Gallery system. This way all images that have text on them will have a matching graphic in any official language.

0.4.0 Development Update 3

The different paths in the upcoming release will offer very different scenes and each will introduce us to multiple new characters. These new characters will all have a part to play now and well into the future with some causing a hard split in certain paths. If you have Branson in your group from the 0.3.0 release, then his past and choices you made for him will play a major part in the direction of the scenes. A life hangs in the balance and certain choices you have already made will dictate the outcome of this situation. Having Damerek in your group instead will open up new scenes that will give us some insight into his background. His path will also lay the foundation for a future story arc and companion quest while also introducing a new antagonist.

Alongside the story writing and image creation I have been continuing work on the updates for the galleries and journal mentioned in the previous development update. Here are some screenshots of the new Images and Dreams selection screens.
Each time you enter the screen, the Others image will randomly change to show different characters that fall into that category. The images also change from black and white to color when you hover over them.

The different dreams that you will be able to see during your story will be listed here. They will be black and white and will change to a color version once you have unlocked it for replay.

How long is this expected to be in development before being finished? Is the game going to come out in early access and release a chapter a year like the other other big visual novel games or is it a plan to release a majority of the game all once?

Tried the demo...and whattttttt?????

Big fan of medieval RPGs. Big fan of VNs. Big fan of GOOD AVNs. Having said that, was blown away by level of graphics. It seems 4k? If not pretty dam close. It's more novel than porn. But I'm good with good story. And surprisingly, for free demo the writing is actually pretty good. Esp. in comparison of what you normally get with free demos on $team. Then we got elves and dwarves... ok ok medieval fantasy. Still good. But now wondering how far it's going into fantasy side? We talking all the way to drago...

Demo Feedback

I only did one playthrough as the "good guy" but it seems interesting so far. Renders were well done for the most part; maybe just a little too much noise on some of them. I had a feeling where you were going with the relic; the Shannara book series did something similar so I think it can work. Early access isn't my thing so I'll wait for the finished game but good luck to you....

Opinion(s) about demo

I just played this demo for the first time and it looks like this will be a interesting one when it's available to buy. I'm liking the way the story is being told as well as playing out and it will be interesting to see how the rest of the story plays out with time. What year are you and/or hope to release this on steam?...
