I've picked Trackmania 2 Stadium after I've played Trackmania Nations Forever. Played it, but only for a little bit. That is because I shortly picked up Trackmania United Forever, the cousin to Nations Forever. This is because United features (along with other games in the series) what I consider to be an underrated aspect of the Trackmania series: Environments.

I urge anybody who's only played Stadium to at least try the other environments. They're great in their own ways, and the cars provide new ways of playing the game.
