Game might be good, but leaving a bad review purely because I needed to spent half an hour creating, verifying, and personalizing a Sony account. I want to press a button and play, don't waste my time.

Sony PSN can suck it, I'm sure the game will be good but why does offline game requires PSN connection? Might update review later

Requires a PlayStation Network ID to be able to play the game, and currently it is not possible to create one because their servers are down. I had to refund it because after (almost) 2 weeks, my refund timeframe was almost over and it seems it is an ongoing problem.

It is not a problem on my side, several others I can know tried and had the same issue and I have no other internet or disconnection issues with any other (proper) service. PlayStation is just garbage...

Great game, but having PSN requirement on a single player game is just plain moronic. I just use the mod to by pass "New EA" requirements. Sony is gay

Superb Game. The story was phenomenal the way Santa Monica does it. The ending was grand. Worth your time and emotions. Must play

There's so much art in this tale of a video game. So much greatness, noble and moving moments, memories, sadness, and despair. And, unfortunately, for all the great things, aspects, and themes of this game, it's like each had its counterpart of failures, disappointment, lack of meaning, and weight.


Kratos... When the focus is on him this game is untouchable. The opening first hour of the game is elusively good, but later and throughout, the game peaks again, even when some moments are sad and make you feel hurt, they were nevertheless done well but till the end, the game never reaches the same heights again as it did at the start.

The bosses and combat are even better than in the first game, there's much more to do in combat and the bosses are brutal at the highest difficulty, which I recommend playing this game. Do yourself a favor and don't settle for less, it's a huge difference in the challenge.

If I were to fix a few things, I would start by having the old director back, as the difference without him glares as strong as Greece's sun...
As I stated at the start, some aspects are so good they are untouchable and some aspects are so bad they are the complete opposite.

The lore writings and scrolls you find... it's almost like they are written for first graders. What happened there? It's like they are dumbed down on purpose. They lack any meaning and weight, they never made me feel anything reading them.
Angrboda... well, a quite a few things to be fixed there. Same with Atreus' sections, they are really... really weak in comparison, almost so much so that while playing them I just wanted to get them done as soon as possible so I could go back to Grumbles (Kratos)

Unfortunately and with great sadness, some characters die... yes, this is war, and wars are won by those who are willing to sacrifice the most... but some characters just get forgotten right away and they don't even get mentioned after their death... a huge disrespect especially when others are cherished even after. Even by their most beloved ones. Absolutely awful and shameful.
One death really shook me. It still almost brings a tear to my eye to think about, how those events came to be, it's like the signs are dangling in front of me from the get-go but I kept choosing to close my heart to them and never see them till they actually happen.

Ultimately, the game builds up to something it never reaches... the ending is rather underwhelming and weak. This deserved a much better-orchestrated ending.


On a more positive note, knowing all that I know, yes, I would still recommend playing this game, this is a positive review after all. For there are many moments in it that will make you happy, sad, remorseful, and make you feel... alive.

The game's world is touched by the grace of a wonderful brush of creativity and love, I loved exploring it and just staring at the world, in the death of winter or not.


It's rare to actually play an AAA game of this tier where it really is of triple-A qualities. As torn as I am about the game's weaknesses and strengths, it feels like it was made by two different teams... together. I still loved it nevertheless and I would gladly play it all over again just to walk the path again with Kratos.

I can only recommend this game as it provides a satisfying conclusion to the story and journey of Kratos. Outside of the combat though, just about everything in this game is a downgrade from its 2018 predecessor. The story isn't as good, with the pacing interrupted in bits where you play as Atreus and the dialogue and writing can feel a bit too modern at times (Odin referring to Freya as "my ex" at one point was incredibly jarring to hear). While 2018 was an excellent "movie game" Ragnarok is more of an "MCU movie game." Some characters feel like they were written by Disney and Marvel and I can't understand how this studio took such a step back in their writing and dialogues between GOW2018 and this game.

Combat however I felt was an improvement as not only Kratos feel lighter and quicker but there is a new melee weapon which is very fun to use. There are new offensive abilities for the Leviathan Axe & Blades of Chaos which are welcomed. Also a lot more armors with different looks and styles so Kratos can be dripped out, in addition to more stat modifiers allowing you to really spec out a specific build and playstyle.

In the end I'll give it a 7.25/10. This game takes a step back in storytelling, the handholding during puzzles are straight up offensive and ultimately the improvements in combat are dragged down by a not-as-great story although the ending is satisfying and the accompanying Valhalla mode which was released post-launch is sure to please any fan of the series, especially longtime ones. This game capped off my playthrough of the entire God of War franchise this year and although this title wasn't one of my favorites, the series as a whole was something I enjoyed and would thoroughly recommend to anybody.

Got halfway through first cutscene, and the dog sled went off on its own and the game just sat there, had to load checkpoint and watch cutscene again.

After cutscene, got into the world walked for like 15m, then got gpu crash saying to do clean install of drivers. I have checked online and this is happening to a lot of people. The latest nvidia driver even says fix for a crash in this game.

Still the issue is ongoing, going to have to refund this game. The first game worked flawlessly on PC. What the hell happened here Sony.

this game crashes upon launching it. No mod or solution available online worked. My specs are top of the line and my software is up to date. There is no feasible reason this should be a problem and I'm not alone. I gave the game time to fix the problem instead of refunding immediately. I can confidently say that after patch 7, the game will not play. Now, after attempting to reason with steam support, because it's been more than two weeks, they refuse to refund, despite the fact that all 20 minutes of my 'gameplay' is just me starting the game and it proceeding to crash a dozen or two times. Thanks sony.
