DOOM II

DOOM II

so with the new update to the original...
the doom 1 + doom 2 that now includes doom 2 that has caused the stand alone to be de-listed. i see that there is already about 5 different threads, but none really address the situation about the files themselves.

i have the doom 1 + 2 update, i have doom 2 as a standalone, i have doom 3 bfg as well.

my question is this: since the doom 1 + 2 has a copy,

should i uninstall the doom 2 standalone?

do the 1 + 2 and doom 3 bfg have their own separate copies or would they all reach across folders somehow to mesh?

i've never tried diving into steam folders.

You can delete Doom2 and Doom 3 bfg if you want, they are separates archives. It's not that they weigh too much either, 2 megabytes? Why would you delete it, well Doom 3 obviously weighs more...
well, what i was thinking i wouldnt mess with the doom 3 bfg files as while it provides a copy of doom 1 and 2, they all run off similar menu's within that game.

however, i wasnt sure about the interconnectivity between the doom 2 stand alone game and the updated 1 game and the doom 3 game. i was assuming each program within steam would have its own copy of files, but i wanted to be 100% sure. better safe than sorry.

as someone who has a bipolar brain, my brain was offering up possibilities like the patched doom 1 + 2 might pull some kind of common file, that the doom 2 standalone folder also used.

i used to know computer programming, but that was more than 20 years ago, and i dont know the realm possibilities anymore. if the total size is minuscule, then i might just hide the game from showing in the library.
The new KEX port is pretty buggy right now. I'd keep this one around until they fixed it. Demons can jump/fall down from platforms, the music is super quiet, random game crashes, you get the picture. I believe there's also some issues with the add on wads not having their unique sounds or music like they do with this Unity port.
The only thing bugging me with this unity version is the hud down the bottom-
can this be removed?

Other than that ,this unity version seems well worth a play even when I own the newer version ,since they feel different in play. This old version reminds me more of Doom Retro - and the new version doesn't.
Also having both versions on PC at once gives me some play room if I wish to swap 1 or both dosbox.exe s for another app -like GZdoom or PsyDoom -as I have.

Uninstalling is fine, yet deleting it from the library might add a message about how Doom 1+2 requires it, since I doubt they add Doom 2 for free.

Not sure why Doom 2's listing wasn't deleted by them though...

I prefer that they not delete it, since doom+doom2 does not have options to aim or jump, which are required in many mods. I can use Doom2 to play the mods that require those mechanics, and the other to play online, etc.

You can already use mods with Doom+Doom 2 though, unless you're not talking about source port mods.
i've never used mods in any of my steam games yet, other than the moguri mod for ff9 so for me i just hid the original standalone doom 2 game, left doom 3 bfg alone so my steam library shows doom 1+ 2, doom 3, doom 64, then the quake games which is have put into that sub category.

I keep Doom II installed and basically use it for Gzdoom/Doom Runner, and leave Doom I+Doom II alone as the base rerelease.

Same, i use Doom 2 for Gzdoom...I haven't tried to play mods in doom+doom2 that require mechanics like jumping or aiming, for example Golden Soul1/Golden Soul2.
