Steam Input support
The 1.35 update now has native support for Steam Input in addition to the platform specific input mechanisms we already supported (e.g. DirectInput, XInput, evdev). The Steam Input applies primarily to the Steam Controller where the existing support was not ideal however it is possible to use it for classical controllers (Xbox, PS4, Switch Pro) and take advantage of extended configuration features the Steam Input provides (e.g ability to bind a different actions to short and long press of a button).

The Steam Controllers are always using the Steam Input. For each type of classical controller you can decide if you want to handle that type using the Steam Input or use our normal configuration support by opting the controller type in or out of the Steam Input support. A controller type can be opted into the Steam Input using the Controller Settings screen in the Steam client. This screen can be opened from the main menu of the Steam client by selecting Settings > Controller > General Controller Settings button. On this screen you can check or uncheck checkboxes corresponding to types of the classical controllers you want to opt in or out the Steam Input support. Please note the Generic Gamepad Configuration Support choice on the Controller Settings screen corresponds DirectInput devices and you might not want to enable it if you are using a non-gamepad controller such as a driving wheel.

If classical controller is opted into the Steam Input, it becomes unavailable on the in-game controllers screen and all its configuration must be done using the Steam Controller configuration UI. So if you are missing a controller there, please ensure that you did not opt it in in the past.

The Steam Controller configuration UI is only accessible from the Steam Big Picture in-game overlay. The Steam will use this type of overlay if the Steam client itself is running in the Big Picture mode or if Steam Input enabled controller is used. To access the configuration UI select the Controller Configuration choice in the overlay menu. If you did not configure the controller yet or have a configuration created for older version of the game, the best initial step is to apply official SCS configuration and modify it as necessary. To apply a configuration on the Controller Configuration select Browse Configs, go to the Recommended tab, select the configuration named Official Configuration for Euro Truck Simulator 2 and on the configuration preview screen select Apply Configuration.

Please note that when applying configuration which contains large changes, like it happened during the update to 1.35 or after some updates of Steam client, the binding configured in the UI might not work in the game. In that situation the game.log.txt will frequently contain messages such as [steam] Failed to resolve action set. The best way to solve this situation is to restart the Steam Client.

It's about time game companies started utilising the Steam Controller so i for one am very grateful. Keep up the amazing work you are doing for this and ATS.

Congratulations to your team, however I must say that on Linux that's not really required. We have sc-controller, a configurator and driver software that's superior to steam's in almost every way. I stopped using it before I bought a G29 steering wheel, but I was able to perfectly use the steam controller to drive in the game, even using the gyroscope to simulate the turning wheel.

Still cant figure out how to get steam controller to work

Steam controller works much better; however, I keep experiencing game crashes while using other controllers. I tested with Xbox One and Xbox One Elite controllers and the game crashed while using each.

I have a logitech f310 controller

In the steam input config window., how do I bind LS up & down to desired functions...
The LS has been selected as Steering in the input style drop down...

This ruined all my previous configs and to make it worse I can't use my Xbone controller anymore. Awful update... the detection system was bad already and now it doesn't even work anymore.
Getting unusable "Steam Emulated" ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ instead of the proper controller settings.
All of this for that horrible Steam Controller which nobody uses.

Am I the only one having problems setting the game up with my G27 Steeringwheel? after the update it no longer recognizes my controller.

Can't get the SC to work in W10, though it's fine in Linux.

Have selected the recommend profile via Big Picture, still not working.

After 3 days of enjoyment... suddenly the game stopped recognizing my steam controller. It all started prompting a "missing controller" message, but everything were working. But now... neither the gyro or the joystick work as a "wheel". They just work as A,D keys, moving the wheel but not recovering the center. Well... right now, there is no point to use the steam controller over the keyboard. (I did try EVERY single "fix". I ended DELETING the whole game and configs... no luck)

Dude, I'm getting this... did you fix it? I just came back to playing after a few months and it's goosed.

Steam Controller gyro-steering is now wrecked. Why? Is there any way I can roll-back or uninstall the 1.35 update? I now get no pleasure from this game in its current state.

Thank you for ruin my xbox one controller support. I can't play correctly now.

I'm using a DS4 controller and it's not even recognized by the game (the Keyboard + Steam Emulated doesn't show up anymore). And Steam's official configuration for ETS2 is a nightmare compared to the ingame version. Why change what wasn't broken? I used to have my right analogue as Steering and my left analogue as Acelerate up and Brake down, but I can't even do that in Steam's controller configuration, I'm forced to use L2 and R2 as brake/acelerate. Jesus, WHY?

When I finally managed to configure the Steam setup to the closest my previous controller maping was like, to try and use the left analogue as thrust and brake, I had to map it as W and S to mimick the effect that pressing those keys on my keyboard would have. This means I can't gradually accelerate or brake anymore (as you can with the default L2 and R2, which seems to be the only buttons SCS allows to use for that), so even moving them just a little makes them go 100%. I also used the L1 and R1 buttons as blinkers, but they have this annoying delay where I can't turn them off after using them without pressing the button twice or longer.

For anyone having trouble, the solution with my situation with the DualShock 4 was using a third-party software called DS4 Windows and disabling Steam support for DS4 controllers. This made the game recognize and go back to the previous way. Not sure about the type or brand of controllers you have, but try to find some third-party software that allows this sort of thing.

Steam Input support is really good but now I can't configure my gyro to steer properly. Please, add the new action to your config to steer without smoothing, like 'steering wheel" option does before. This will allow players to have stick steering as usual plus precise gyro steering simultaneously. It will complete all my needs and desires for this game.
