Probably rex, but raul is fun to have around in the rare situations I actually use a companion.

that is the only valid answer; while they're all useful for their personal quests, for general purpose wastelanding, nevermind our quite appropriate geographical location, it's got to be Machete. Ese es chistoso.

cass, but i like alcaholic cowboy chicks with big hooters, so it wasn't a hard to choose

Ed-E is best companion accross ALL of Fallout!
I love that adorable naughty little bot ^^

Veronica is a pretty cute punchy gal.
Raul is a funny deadpan snarker and his full maintenence perk is very good.
Cass is a fun gal, good alrounder with guns.
Arcade is kinda average.
Rex lacking any ranged attack kinda hurts on very hard + hardcore, why he no have sonic bark?
Lily is a good tank.
Boone is a sad sack, which is understandable given his background, but a bit of a downer at times, atleast he's a very good sniper and his perk helps in finding targets.

Raul by a fair margin, and I like Rex.

Arcade

I like them all but EdE is really the only mainstay for me. The rest I just tag along to do their quests, except Boone who is there until I reach Vegas.

I probably keep Cass, Arcade and Lily the least amount of time. Rex, Raul, Boone, Veronica I keep a lot longer.

Rex is a Legion cyberdog, that faded bull on his rear is proof!
And according to Anthony, Caesar's personal dog.
Rex just got lost after the first battle and ended up wandering into Freeside, where he was taken in by the King.

Ed-E and Lily don't care you joining the Legion either.
