Nothing will work on my system even when having Proton active
I have been trying for a long time to get my system to utilize Proton, but any game or software that I go to load up will never even load up at all and just crashes right away. I currently have tried on both Ubuntu Budgie as well as Kubuntu with no success of any kind. My system is running an AMD Ryzen 5700G and a Radeon RX 6700. Even doing a clean install of the operating system doesn't enable anything to load that would load with Proton. I have tried all of the different versions of Proton for all of the software, but it is always the same situation. I don't know what's going on, is this something that tends to be common in the Ubuntu distributions?

what version of steam are you using? the native (non flatpak, non snap) version is usually the best choice.

are the 32 bit libraries installed? steam requires the 32 bit libraries and not every distro installs them as a default.

Are you trying to run Windows games from an NTFS partition?

Should I be trying to get it directly from the Steam website instead of the Software download store? The version that I installed is the Steam (installer), which is not either snap or flatpak

Are you trying to run Windows games from an NTFS partition?
Does that prevent them from working if it's not partitioned as FAT or FAT32? The partition is an NTFS one.

the software store 'native' version is fine. are the 32 bit libraries installed? if not, run the following to add them:
sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386

Edit: just saw the post about it being an NTFS drive, most likely the issue.

FAT and FAT32 won't work either. You want a Linux filesystem.

There is a janky workaround, but it's janky. Using a native filesystem is preferable.

If you're dual booting because some games work better for you on windows, like multiplayer games with anti-cheat, then keep those on an NTFS drive/partition and move the other games to an EXT4 drive/partition.

I don't play multiplayer games, even though I have some in my library. Are you saying that the NTFS partition is the reason that Proton isn't allowing anything to work at all?

When I tried moving the files from my NTFS partition to my EXT4 partition for a game, the game loaded up, but the cloud saves weren't showing at all, it was only giving me the option for new game, not continue.

NTFS doesn't work well with steam games. There are workarounds, but I've never needed to try them and can't offer firsthand advice.

My games do show up in the cloud saves, but what is really bizarre is the game that I tested to find it worked with Proton by moving the files over to my ext4 OS operating system, the saves load on different systems that I would be logged into my Steam account on, but it doesn't show up in the cloud saves page, though.

some games don't use the steam cloud. check the store page to see it says cloud saves, or just the game properties in steam on the general tab for steam cloud, if it's not there then that's why.

some games don't use the steam cloud. check the store page to see it says cloud saves, or just the game properties in steam on the general tab for steam cloud, if it's not there then that's why.

I was unaware that there were some games that didn't have the cloud saves to them. The interesting thing is that the game that I was able to try and get working was a game called Learn Japanese to Survive - Hiragana Battle and it is the first game of a trilogy of games that the developer released to learn Japanese. The other games are for Katakana and Kanji and they both have the cloud save showing in their store pages, but the Hiragana one does not.
