Steam for Linux

Steam for Linux

boot loops when launched from menu
Using Linus Mint, when launching Steam from my app / /start menu shortcut. Steam will begin starting, and then stop and get caught in a loop trying to start and stopping.

I'm able to launch by typing in the same command into my terminal that the shortcut uses "/usr/bin/steam %U" , I even can omit %U and it still works from my own Terminal.

But launching from the shortcut causes some loop. I can set the shortcut to use a terminal and it still loops. I get this output:

steam.sh[19185]: Running Steam on linuxmint 22 64-bit
steam.sh[19185]: STEAM_RUNTIME is enabled automatically
setup.sh[19302]: Steam runtime environment up-to-date!
steam.sh[19185]: Steam client's requirements are satisfied

Notice the last bit repeats 4 times. That was me letting it try 3 more times after the first blip.
It's like the window was about to show up and then doesn't. In Linux Mint it looks like the section of the screen warps for a sec, because a window appear and disappeared and it uses a warp effect for those events.

I've tryed setting the chmod permissions on the usr/bin/steam script. I've also looked for a "Use Non Default GPU = true" (I forget the exact command now) so I can set it to false like one thread said. In that /usr/bin/steam script. But there was none to begin with.

I couldn't find a thread that solved this besides the one that says set permissions. And that didn't work for me.

Thank you for any help you can give. For now I can just launch from terminal I guess lol.

Your Steam shortcut probably has some environment variable set that causes the problem.
