Steam for Linux

Taking a screenshots or capture a video with one button.
Hello,
I am wondering how do you take a screenshot or capture a video on Linux with one dedicated button. Not talking about steam screenshot bc that does not work in game.
Thank you.

The steam built-in screenshot is fine, but if I want to contain the mangohud thing then I will use grim with some configured shortcut (by the way, I use hyprland). To capture a gameplay video I will use obs (but if u are on wayland, to pass the shortcut key to obs is non-trivial. For example, if the current focused window is not obs, say if I want to begin capturing at some time during a game by pressing some keys, then obs will not respond to the shortcut keys. For hyprland, it is necessary to set Global Keybinds[wiki.hyprland.org], iirc, plasma has done something with global hotkeys too...)

the "printscreen" keyboard key should work on most linux distros

I use Linux Mint and there it also accepts modifier keys:

printscreen = captures entire screen and opens save dialog

shift + printscreen = lets you select part of the screen

alt + printscreen = captures currently focused window

ctrl + printscreen = skips the save dialog, storing the screen capture only in clipboard

...and it can accept combinations

eg:
ctrl + shift + printscreen = lets you select part of the screen then skips the save dialog, storing the screen capture only in clipboard

on windows
a) the printscreen key also captures the entire screen and throws it in the clipboard, and it accepts alt + printscreen to capture the currently focused window, but then you'll need to open paint if you want to save it to a file

b) win+shift+s (or something like that... muscle memory) calls the newer screen capture app

what the steam printscreen method does that's particularly interesting for gaming is that it captures the entire screen and saves it to a file without requiring extra user interaction so you can keep gaming without interruption

as for setting global hotkeys, on Linux Mint you can configure those in the "Keyboards" control panel applet, where there is a dedicated tab for shortcuts... each distro may have its own place for this but there should be an easy graphical config screen on most distros

Thank you both. I have Linux Mint as well. Will try that and fiddle around to get the best for me.
The print button never came cross my mind since I have that fixed with win systems.

This should be completely obvious. Heck, it _IS_ completely obvious. Yet, in ~4 years using Gnome. I had never looked for it. Thank you! I've already set a key combo to display page 2 of the unicode charmap. (Don't ask.)
