Not sure, do you encounter a malfunction or have you not been able to browse the files with Steam's file manager tool? If it is the later, I always browse back to my root with Steam's file manager and then I can find those drives where my gamefiles are located.

Quite a while back (a year maybe) some users reported that steam's context menu did nothing when clicked. Standard workaround at that time was to hold down the control key while clicking. I believe Valve also added Enable context menu focus compatibility mode to the Interface tab of the Settings dialog at that time. I didn't experience the issue so I can't report results.

If you can find your steamapps directory (sometimes in ~/.local/share/Steam) with your system file manager, your local files should be in steamapps/common/stardew or some such.

When I click browse local files, steam opens my default file browser (/usr/bin/nautilus on my system) to the desired location. I'm a little embarrassed to confess I have no clue how steam knows what binary to launch; I assume it could be mis-configured.

The game files are at ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Stardew Valley

Thank you for the responses, I have tried to input the local.share… option but it always pops up with directory doesn’t seem to exist, and my steam still won’t let me browse files in any way, I did notice it says files are on mnt/stateful and beside it is the browse button which also won’t open, that one from properties

Just some basics, do you use flatpak or snap Steam install?

So I redownloaded steam and now the browse local files button opens up but the pop up says no apps available. No apps installed can open “game”. You can find more applications in software

Flatpak or snap is known to cause file issues as they seem to use different routes. De-install flatpak version and try Steam runtime or at least native.

I did face this issue; apparently it is a problem when you use LXDE. I did not face it while using GNOME desktop environment. It still remains broken but at least by enabling the setting you mentioned, you can select those options by pressing Ctrl and clicking.
