It does. I found a standalone driver and GUI called sc-controller. The tool recognizes my steam controller and allows me to configure it over BLE. However when I load steam, the same thing happens. The client becomes unstable. I wasn't able to actually get into the controller menu this time, but the client resolved itself when I turned the controller off.
I would guess this is an Issue with steam. I am even having issues with the steam deck controller showing up in some games on Steam OS.
sc-controller is a fantastic bit of software. Love it! Especially useful when using the Steam Controller with games from outside the Steam ecosystem (Heroic launcher, GOG, Lutris, Bottles, etc) without adding said games directly to Steam itself. Also nice for using the Steam Controller with certain non-games (tools) where a fancy controller might be more effective than a mouse.
Thanks. I found this

via your link. I will try it out a little later.
