Steam for Linux

Steam for Linux

[Linux] Steam works with Dualshock 3, but my Steam games don't.
Hi.
So, I've finally managed to make my Dualshock 3 controller talk to Steam at least, pretty much out of the box, because the ds3 controller is now supported by the Linux kernel. Problem is, even though Steam listens to my input using a dualshock 3, none of my Steam games work with it.
After launching a game, if I press the ps button, the Steam overlay will come up, so Steam does know it's there and it's listening to it, but my Steam games don't. Yes, I do have it set as my controller. I do have PS configuration support checked in my Steam settings and Steam has it detected as a ps3 controller. What am I missing? My OS is Linux Mint 19 Tara 64-bit, which is based on Ubuntu 18.04..

I'm participating in the Steam Beta program. I'm running a few games with Steam Play.
But none of my Steam Play and my Steam games work with my controller.
Only Steam listens to it. It doesn't matter if I'm using the controller via USB or Bluetooth, the outcome is the same. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Oh and if some output command is required to figure it out, please let me know.
I'll be happy to provide it.

Thanks.

Hello,
I had the same problem. IIRC it was because I had xboxdrv installed. So I uninstalled xboxdrv, reinstalled xinput and did a reboot.

Hey there, ActionedPlayer.
Where did you manage to find and remove xboxdrv? Was it Synaptic? What about Xinput?
I'm just asking bc I'd like to follow the footsteps of someone who actually managed to make it work. Could you tell me further details? Thanks.

EDIT: I just looked up xboxdrv using Synaptic. It's not installed. So...where do I go from here?

did you toggle the ps controller support off on steam settings and try again?

that config is supposed to affect if it is seen as a ps controller or translated by steam into kbd+mouse or similar input like with the steam controller

does it work if you try to configure game-specific controller settings?

Thank you for replying. Dude, this dualshock 3 is a very very weird one. But lets get to it:
Yea, I have my dualshock 3 controller detected by Steam. I can tell because when I go to Big Picture mode, the gears icon, controller settings, and it's there. In order to make sure it works, when I hit the Detect button, my controller shakes. But even that wasn't enough because once I launched a game under Steam Play (Helldivers for example), nothing happened.
Following your hint did the trick. But there's more: even though I have PS3 controller support, Helldivers still displays the AXYB icons when it should do the dualshock ones. Why is that?
And no, I do not have Xbox controller support ticked.

Any ideas?

Funny, It's hard enough getting those working on Windows. And one of the best programs for it on windows was identified as containing malware

I've made some research. It's been this mess for quite some time: https://gtm.you1.cn/discussions/forum/1/1762481957306089852/
I thought this issue was related to the Beta version of Steam. It turns out it also affects the regular "stable" one as well, sadly.

The problem isn't Linux or Steam, but the games. They don't support playstation control. To work, just set steam deal with your playstation controller as an xbox controller. View --> Settings --> Controller --> General Controller Settings --> Xbox Configuration Support. That will be enough!
