Hostile Environment
Am I missing something? This game has become MISERABLE for me. Every island that pops up has a hostile environment now. By the time I jump off my boat and walk a few feet I'm almost dead? It's impossible to get iron from the forest because of the Sasquatch. I was really enjoying the game and now it feels as though I've hit a brick wall and can't progress.

If you don't won't to kill Sasquatch there in the day time, but you will have to kill the 2 bears first. My base is set up on the forest island not a bad place for a base but you have to killSasquatch first. 👍
The sasquatch is kill-able with the cutter and a painful amount of canon balls / crew equipment. the swamp island has the moss needed for the cammo gear to go unnoticed in the forest if you don`t want to fight ( just have to get it a bit at a time with the hostile enviroment ... or use the health potions you can buy from Sir Jim ... but I do agree the difficulty level ramps up a lot after deadmans island

I assume you have encountered the Mysterious Forest Island.

This may be sort of a spoiler, but you may want to craft yourself camouflage armor that requires materials from the mossy (swamp) island. That will make you invisible to creatures in the forest (including the ...big guy ;)
You may also want to keep bug spray on hand. That will make you immune to bug damage and energy drain.

Iron can also be obtained from the some hidden islands (a yellow icon on your compass)
If you see a yellow icon (generally a palm tree or a fir tree etc). Visit that island and it has more resources and ore there as well.
ps: keep a few bottles of bug spray on you at all times

Thanks for your patience and for sticking it out! If you do feel that the game difficulty is not to your liking, you can also set the game to peaceful mode to speed up progression if you are in a time crunch.

Agree the Hostile Environment areas ticks to much damage. I am level 45 and around a handful of ticks you are dead. Unless you can get an advance fire, and some shelter going fast enough to help increase your HP you are a pretty much dead pretty quickly.

The environment damage needs to be toned down A LOT I feel, or a easier faster way to slow it down some. A level 45 should not be dying so fast to environment damages, even with some resistances on them. It is just insane.

hostile environment is rough at first but when you get the mats to make the protection potions and boats made for certain areas and certain damage its a non issue. keep at it.

Yeah, after a while you'll have the resources to make the hostile environment completely safe.

Put your game on peaceful mode. I was ready to quit because of hostile environments. You can still attack but only when your ready to. Weather doesn't hurt you nor does the environment. I am enjoying the game so much now. It does not take anything away from the game in peaceful mode other then dying way less and not having to constantly keep crafting boats cause the storms destroy them. I am not a hardcore player so peaceful mode is perfect for me. Thank you Dev's for adding that option.

yw :) We are pro game modes and modding, in time we may add more customizable game mode options that can either increase or decrease difficulty and the grind needed.

If the Normal mode still feels a bit rough, we may add an Easy mode in addition to normal that may have lower environment damage

You can also target hostiles from off shore, like the Gators and Anacondas and take them out with your cannons, then land ashore and clean up! Easy "mossing!"

I get iron from the hidden (forest) island, and there seems to be much more of it. I was a little suprized how much iron I was getting there compared to the smaller amounts of copper bars and the difficulty of getting it on the permanent forest island. I know your frustration with the permanent swamp and forest islands. I had to hit and run on the swamp island several times to collect the few items needed for camp armor. Seemed a little out of progression to me and very awkward.
