we've had a very exciting first year of Early Access! We can hardly believe it's been that long already since we pressed the "release" button and shared Pagonia with the world. Since that day, our excitement about Pagonia has barely abated.

In this post, we want to take a look back at the last 12 months as well as ahead at what's yet to come to Pagonia. Keep reading for more details about our just-published, updated roadmap.


We say this a lot, but we really read and appreciate all feedback we receive from our community! Whether here in the Steam community, over on our Discord server or on our social media channels.

Many of the updates we released over the last year were directly or indirectly inspired by your feedback: the improved handling on farm fields, new HUD configurations, the combat system rework and even a whole enemy type (the Scavs!). In total, we added over 150 improvements of all kinds to the game.

This all happened in between us working on content we envisioned for Pagonia from the very start (for example the cursed Malthorn or our shared co-op mode) and highly anticipated economy additions like the fisher and subsurface mining (along with the iconic Geologist of course!).

Summed up, our focus this year were the key features to build a solid foundation and deep economy system.

The new roadmap reveals that we will focus on two main topics in the near future:

The first is to continue improving all aspects of quality, to make the game even more enjoyable. We listen to your feedback, and you will find many requested quality of life improvements on the roadmap as well as upcoming game system and feature improvements, as we did with the combat system recently.

The second main topic is game content: We will extend the tutorials to ensure new players find their way around Pagonia. We will deliver a map editor as a tool for the community to create and share their own maps. While the full release is not yet on the horizon, we are proud to announce that a full story campaign will be part of the 1.0 release!

The comprehensive handbook contains detailed instructions, valuable tips, detailed tables and more on 190 pages.

The Explorer asks you for help in the tutorial map.

Starting with our biggest feature for new players! This narrative tutorial map is an introduction to Pagonia for everyone new to it (and hopefully a little interesting for all you old hats, too ;) ), and guides new players through finding their way around core game controls and mechanics. Characters (Pagonians with names!) request your help with getting out of a pickle, teaching you the basics on the way. New buildings are unlocked step by step, allowing you to fully focus on the task at hand: Getting these good folks into a better place.
While this feature focuses on improving the experience for new players, experienced ones are of course also invited to play this map and give us feedback!

Just like your military and adventurer units are motivated by wealth, your magical units recruited at the Arcane Academy can be motivated with arcane artifacts. These trinkets and oddities develop their power once they are stored in the Treasury. Arcane artifacts are hidden in treasures and sometimes offered as trades or gifts by your Pagonian neighbors.
Your Warlocks and Sorceresses will thank you for a big collection when you send them into battle against the Malthorn!

Our coziest addition to this update! Enjoy a beautiful range of seasonal details across all maps. Our artists really did great work in transporting that tea-and-blanket feeling to Pagonia. Look out for plenty of baubles, a Christmas market and a limited Winter light setting. We can almost see the chill in the air!

In addition to the global changes across all maps, we have added a special winter-themed predefined map. Get comfy while helping the neighboring village supply their Winter Whimsy celebrations with delicious Winter bread! But beware of pesky thieves trying to disturb you, and keep an eye on the mountains...something mean seems to hide there.

The map is filled with surprises, cheer and secrets.

• Artifacts needed to meet objectives have been removed from treasures to avoid that finding them can take a very long time. Instead, more of them can be found on the surface again.

• Fixed that roads very close to territory borders sometimes did not allow new roads to connect.
  
• Fixed some rendering issues that might improve graphics hardware compatibility.
  
• Fixed some very rare crashes during road construction.
  
• Fixed territory building status if border stones are missing or claiming is disabled.
  
• Fixed the location where infected Pagonians turn into Werewolves.
