Hard to say. I was on the fence as well until a friend picked it up. I then bought it and started playing and after 90 minutes, I'm still on the fence. Now I'm considering refunding or keeping it.

So visually the game is nice. Nothing amazing but fairly clean. Reminds me of Arizona Sunshine if it had slightly better graphics. At first the visuals look fairly colorful and clean but after awhile I start to really get the Arizona Sunshine vibes. Not a totally bad thing but the videos do make this game look better. I'm using a Quest 3 by the way.

Zombies spawn out of the ground as you approach areas. They literally just elevate up through the ground, right in front of you. Kinda weird. Some are already standing in certain spots though.

You can't climb the rocks around you so the game is a bit linear in that regard. Most VR games allow you to grip and climb obstacles but this game doesn't, though it does have a climbing system for specific spots on the map. It also does not have a jump or crouch. Everything just pulls into your hands if you aim and click at them.

The map is a decent size. Nothing huge but decent. The main problem I have is everything is like a corridor. There are multiple little areas around the map and getting to them means running a pathway. It just makes the game feel smaller and less open.

By default you have to click through a menu system for everything. Want to see your inventory, click a button, a window pops up and you can select the inventory, crafting, map, quests etc menus. Click and hold another button and a wheel pops up which allows you to select and item you placed in that wheel, such as a gun, club, etc. Want your hands free? Use the item wheel to select your hands. Want to grab something else? Go into inventory, highlight the item you want, then click one of several in menu buttons such as "use" which IMO is a bit cumbersome. Other VR games have done it better.

You can use the holster option but from what I've seen, it places the gun on the left side and the club on the right. Odd considering the gun should be on the right. Once you have the gun in one hand, there doesn't seem to be a way to swap hands. I could be wrong though but I haven't discovered this. There might be a way to swap the side the gun is placed on but this system doesn't work well IMO so I just keep the holster off and use the item wheel.

Reloading is boring too. when you run out of ammo, you don't drop your mag, grab another and slide it in; instead the mag disappears, and a glowing mag is shown under your gun, you grab it and do a sliding motion upwards with your hand to insert the mag. Then move the slide forward to chamber the first round. I admit this is a simple way to do this but so boring too.

Quests are just fetch this, fetch that. If the quests get any better, well I haven't seen anything better in the first 90 minutes of play. Resources are scattered too. What i don't like is since every area is connected by a corridor, the game pretty much forces you to fight zombies as you go. Sure you can skirt past them but it would be nice if the map was a little more open.

The camp is boring too. All the NPC's just stand or sit in one spot. No one really seems to be doing anything. It would be nice if they went about their business, moving through camp, doing small tasks, talking to each other. Anything to make the world seem more alive.

Combat doesn't feel very rewarding. Using clubs is my preferred method of dispatching zombies early on due to not wanting to waste bullets. Shooting zombies in the head doesn't seem to do much but shooing a load of bullets into their body kills them. Using 5 bullets or more to kill a zombie means you go through a lot of bullets. The guns do not feel good. They do not feel weighted, or powerful. Mind you there is a leveling system for weapons, so later on I'm sure all weapons feel more powerful but in the hand, they seem small, and inconsequential. Again I'm sure they feel more powerful later but I can only speak for the first 90 minutes. The club kills a zombie with around 4+ hits to the head. It becomes the same thing over and over. Approach a zombie, it sees you, pop it in the head, and keep popping it in the head, while backing up, trying to kill it before he hits you. Repeat this over and over again. That's it. Not only is this boring, but it just doesn't feel good. The way the clubs feels in the hand, the impact or lack there of. Its just not as good as other VR games I have played.

Oh yeah, did I mention there is no run or sprint? Your character just moves at one speed. So one speed, no jumping, no climbing unless the climb spot is built into the world, such as ladders and boards that clearly let you climb up. and no crouching, no sneaking.

The game world is a little boring too. Sparse vegetation, some different animals here and there but always in the same spots. The world certainly doesn't feel very natural.

All of this said, I still kind of like the game. I dislike so much about it but I do like survival games, I like crafting, and this game does provide a scratch to the survival itch I always have. I definitely feel that the negatives outweigh the positives for me though. $20 is not much money so I may keep the game and just watch its development. Then again i could spend this $20 on something better. The bottom line is this game just isn't much fun, at least not by 90 minutes in.

If I had to vote thumbs up or down right now? I'd vote down. This game has potential but right now, its just not enough to make me want to play. I think after writing this out, I have realized that I just need to refund it. maybe it can be revisited in a year or so.

Yeah... with what you said it doesnt convince me much, i guess ill pass for now and keep it in my wish list. I do like survival and zombies games but it doesnt seem to be the greatest right now.

Have you tried the game called like SURV1V3, it doesnt look like a survival game but it looks like a good zombie game. I personally already have walking dead S&S 1, and after the fall.
Silent Lucidity 29 Oct, 2023 @ 3:18pm
I own Surv1v3 but only played to the end of the tutorial of the game. I picked this one up because my buddy had already nabbed it. I honestly have no opinion of it as I didn't play enough of the actual game. Its about time we do play it though but my friend has lag in this game so he doesn't want to play. Seems to run fine for me though. He also has the Quest 3.

I can vouch for Surv1v3. It's included in a viveport infinity subscription btw.

The devs are constantly adding new updates throughout the year, and their roadmap looks very promising. If you have a buddy to play with, then I definitely recommend this one. If you're soloing, then maybe a sale.

Thank you for sharing your feedback, especially Mr Chazbo II. As others said, we indeed are trying to add more and more and we want to make the game even more interesting. Along with the new map, you will be able to see totally new quests, errands and a new camp member! 8)

Let me also address a few things you mentioned.

Since you are using Quest 3, news about a special Quest 3 update will be great for you. Our team is currently working on that update, so please stay tuned!

If you go to the game settings, you can find an option to change the reloading type from arcade one to realistic. This should be more interesting one if you find the first type a little dull.

Speaking of shooting and rewards from the kills, please do not forget about the upgrade system. Mike can help you make your weapons much stronger so hitting the head has just right rewards.

We indeed do not have an option to jump or crouch but when it comes to running - we do have it. The point is that the auto sprint is by default.
