Xbox One controller moves both players at once
I'm trying to play this game as a single player, but my Xbox One controller connected via wire repeatedly syncs up and controls both characters at the same time. I pause the game to drop out with one character only to resume control of them the next time I press a button. Is there any way to make it stop recognizing my controller as the input method for multiple players?

just change the controller settings for player 2 to use something else.

that doesn't work. the game sees the controller that is in use controlling the first player as a second input method and when a button is pressed on the only controller it drops in a second player

I've had the same problem, here's how to solve it in 2 steps:
1) Delete Mappings.dat in %APPDATA%/Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment/LEGO Batman 2
2) In Steam's properties for this game set controller as Forced On

there may have been an update since your post, cause all i had to do to fix this exact issue is go to Steam > Settings > Controller > General Controller Settings and enable the controller configuration support.

You have to disable the steam input and try with a software like ds4windows ( https://ds4-windows.com/ ) the promblem is the unknown controller support from steam.
