I only played single-player as that's what I was interested in when I got it, and by now I think Ubisoft already turned off the servers. This recommendation is 50/50 at the "regular" price of $20. If you can get it for the kind of promotional price that it's going for right now, $5 then it's a no-brainer.

I played this game after I'd already gone through Wildlands, as I was curious to see how the game was before the shift to open world. The game has a linear structure both in its strictly sequential missions that tell its story as well as the path that you're expected to take through each mission. There's not a whole lot of freedom in terms path and strategies, and it feels pretty restrictive at times. The mechanics and weapons are introduced progressively and for each mission you have some latitude wrt to loadout but not that much.

Overall I think the campaign is interesting (at least for someone coming "back" from Wildlands), even if it's a bit generic and thin. (its potential grander "conspiracy" themes aren't explored - maybe they're references to the older games that I didn't play).

The major technical annoyances at the time of review are that there's still the crappy Ubisoft launcher in the way that forces you to type the password everytime you launch the game, and there's some issue with aiming the airstrikes that might force you to retry those sections (unresponsive/wonky controls, try limiting framerate to 60fps if it persists). Also, note that Ubisoft launcher support in this game doesn't include preserving the savegames online (and Steam Cloud isn't enabled for it either), so if you want to pick up on another device you'll need to copy the savegames over manually.
