The Witcher: Enhanced Edition

controller support workaround
i dunno if many even still play this game, it looks like imsee new threads on here, so somebody is playing it. .

i onky say this now, because in a couple of other threads , i lamented the absence of controller support for this game.

anyway, i discovered just now, that at some point, Steam added an option in "controller options" to activate "Xbox controller support" and it actually allows you to remap mouse and keyboard functions the xnox controller.

i have wasd mapped to the left stick
the mouse mapped to right stick
left and right triggers are left and right click.

i did have to redo some of the bindings. i have M mapped to the "back(select)" button
esc mapped to the start button

I (inventory) mapped to Y button.
H (hero) mapped to B
J (journal) mapped to A
edit : i had L(alchemy) mapped to x but i actually don't think i needed that, so i mapped left shift to it instead so i can release the mouse cursor ro click on stuff in over the shoulder mode

i had to get a bit creative because there are more keyboard functions than there are controller buttons, i see now why these old school CRPGs don't translate well to controller. . .
i actually probably don't need all those things mapped like that, because opening the inventory frees the mouse cursor and then i can move and click on the journal and hero buttons and i only use hero and alchemy while meditating so those actually don't even need to be mapped to the controller. . .

the left and right bumpers are Q and E to for my witcher swords. (i did not map the sub weapons to anything because i never use those anyway, i just sell those things off at the first opportunity so i can pick up another one to sell it again. . )

i did have to turn the camera sensitivity all themway down to 1
and i had to go into my computer's mouse settings and turn the mouse sensitivity way down as well so that it even becomes remotely playable with the mouse on the right stick,
my mouse creeps super slow now on my desktop, so i need to turn it back

the d-pad i actually put "next sign and previous sign" to up and down. left and right are to cycle my weapons.

playing it now, it's a bit awkward and less precise than the mouse and keyboard. fighting might be a hassle, but the game is playable like this.

i could probably map it even more efficiently if i fiddle with it better.

i dunno if anyone cares,
i assume this is moot if folks have a steam controller. and i i have one of those too, but mine broke shortly after i purchased it and i like the xbox controller better and i only just discovered that the xbox controller can now be configured like a steam controller, so i'm sharing that discovery.

I'm gonna try this, thanks! Netflix brought me back to this game!
yeah, using a controller made my playthrough much more enjoyable. ironically, though, i found myself using the mouse anyway for some things, like leveling up and playing the dice.
the controller was clunky, but it was ideal for movement and combat. so i could sit back and play instead of arching my wrists over the movement keys.
i did fimd that the thumbsticks were a bit semsitive and geral was doing the roly poly way more often than i wanted to, but yeah. the combat in this isn't that hard, even on hard mode

edit : i haven't seen the netflix series, i had to cancel my membership to make room for amazon prime, just to have the privilege of shopping at whole foods again. . (delivery)
Prime has Wheel of Time now, which i haven't watched yet, because i'm busy playing witcher and now witcher 2 hoping to eventually get to witcher 3 before i go blind and die. . lol
