How is this if I haven't read the books or watched the series?
I was doing a bit of game library logistics and found out I have this game, for some reason. I don't know how it ended up in there, probably comes from some bundle or something...

But whatever the case, how is the game for someone who has not read the books or watched the series? Will I be totally lost? Does the game follow the story of the books or is it some tangential storyline created for the game? Does the game spoil too much of the books, in case I eventually decide to read them?

I didn't read game of thrones and never watched the series but I finished this game.
It explains everything good, if you want to find out more you can also read the in-game encyclopedia where some terms and things get explained. I didn't feel lost and could enjoy the game.
The story plays before the books I think but this story only gets told in this game and the main characters don't even get mentioned in the books if I remember correctly.
This story was specifically made for the game, even George R.R. Marin helped with the story.

You're not missing much. The first three books, and the first three seasons of the TV show, are the only thing worth getting invested in. After that the series goes completely downhill.
