Why did they turn Saddler into a southern minister?
It's just so..weird. In the original re4 Saddler was basically a con man, he used everyone from the villagers to Salazar and Krauser. That's what I liked about him, he's one of those exceptionally intelligent individuals who got them to do his bidding free of charge.

The entire time he was probably thinking "I can't believe these idiots willingly injected themselves with a parasite in the name of a religion and gave me all this power."

But with the new one, he is genuinely vested into his family lineage's made up religion. And what's with the strange Tennessee accent? He's supposed to be European lol but they turned him into some bible thumper stereotype, complete with the voice and all. "Sacrificial layumm"

I'm not really sure what you're asking? As you said in the OG he is heavily implied to just be a con man pretending to be a cult leader to get rich and powerful.
Where as in the remake he actually is an insane cult leader that is trying to spread his "gift" across the world.

If you actually want to know specifically why they decided to change his characterisation you'd have to ask the writers. My personal guess is that they thought changing him from just some mid-tier bond villain in to the barely human avatar of some kind of prehistoric Lovecraftian hivemind was generally creepier story-wise.
Dude has not change same dude mostly o.o If you played OG RE4 you will see little differences really >.>
In the original he was a ridiculous goofy ball. That's what. So they had to change it to turn him into a villain.

The original was the stereotype.

He was a goofball here as well. Both are cheesy but i think they just fleshed him out less in RE4R

Saddler must have said the same 10 lines I used to hear at my baptist church

Sacrificial lamb (x4), prostrate yourselves to our holy body, says our holy body 20 times, join our covenant little lamb (this Saddler loves lambs doesn't he?), exult all and LET IT BE SO! Your soul requires cleansing, deliver unto them..salvation

I personally think the island section killed the game's momentum because we got a cooler village and castle, but the island felt like the game was telling me "ok lets hurry and wrap this story up"

Doesn't help that Saddler didn't directly make an appearance until 90% of the game was already over

Don't get me wrong though, the game is a solid 8.5 out of 10. Though it could have been made a 9, between improving Saddler and Ada's voice actress

That's fair, I prefer this version, I like that this time the cult actually feels like a cult.

Regardless of the goofy jokes and bad writing, In the original he was really sinister. In the remake he become minister. That's what happens when you take your leave of Japanese subtlety.

Presentation IS everything!
I also prefer him in og. He is the weakest character in the remake besides ada.
